Wouldn't next year be the 25th anniversary?

Timing is NOT the issue.

If MJ can make a public rant about Tommy Motolla and still release Thriller 25, I'm sure Warners would tuck in their wangs and collaborate on Purple Rain 25 after all of Prince's kicking and screaming.

hard feelings aside, I think it would be smart business for both parties, Prince and WB.

Agreed.

I think it should start with 1999 this year, and continue with each consecutive album.

There are enough boots and b-sides to do deluxe re-masters for quite a few years!!!

Does it necessarily have to tie-in with an anniversary to be a success?

For us, no!

For commercial marketability reasons, and as justification for companies to re-release re-hashed material that they've already skanked millions out of people already for???? Yes

I wouldn't want any guest stars, just a two disc version that includes all the extended versions, remastered and all that jazz... something like this would be super cool and realistic (if it weren't Prince we were talking about lol):

PURPLE RAIN: 25th Anniversary Edition

Disc 1: The Revolution
1. Let's Go Crazy (Special Dance Mix)
2. Take Me With U
3. The Beautiful Ones Darling Nikki (previously unreleased full version)
4. Computer Blue (previously unreleased full version)
5. Darling Nikki Darling Nikki (previously unreleased full version)
6. When Doves Cry
7. I Would Die 4 U
8. Baby I'm A Star
9. Purple Rain

Disc 2: B-Sides & Rivals
1. God (Vocal Version)
2. Erotic City (Extended Version)
3. 17 Days
4. Another Lonely Christmas (Extended Version)
5. The Time: Jungle Love
6. The Time: The Bird
7. Apollonia 6: Sex Shooter
8. The Modernaires: Modernaire
9. God (Instrumental Version)

Yes, I know I'm dreaming! lol

You could also throw in a concert here as well from the preiod. Now that would be swell.

I've seen all kinds of re-releases with no tie-ins to any anniversary or current project from other artists. David Bowie, Led Zeppelin...

As long as it is remastered, people don't need to be sold on an anniversary.

With the release of Michael Jackson's 25th anniverary remix album, which by the way sucks with Fergie, Akon, Will.i.am and Kanye guesting on it, does anybody know if Warner Bros. would do something similiar. I would have to imagine it would be against the wishes and interests of Prince. A part of me would balk at it, but another part of me would be curious to hear how Alicia Keys would sound on "Beautiful Ones", or Beyonce would sound on "Baby I'm A Star" etc.

Prince would have to be given full control, and access to the masters..

So, probably no...unless all parties involved need alot of $$$$$.

Prince could release another New Master, but I doubt it.

Beyonce would need the permission of Sony, if Prince is no longer with Sony.

It's much easier to colaborate with independents now..

I hope not. If they want to do something for the anniversary, they need to re-release it with some unreleased songs or unreleased extended versions of the era. That would be a great anniversary album, not an album that has been ruined with the shit hop treatment.

I like a lot of hip hop but i agree, no remixes, these are great songs just as they are just clean them up a little is all.

Unless its like a tribute album or a remix album,It seems kinda sacrilegious to fuck with them. Prince's 80's work is now the stuff of "classic status" like homes in a historic districts that can only be remodeled in their period colors and details, lol.
So any tracks from that era like long versions b-sides, The Time and Apollonia tracks would be cool.
