Nothing unusual about this. Most Prince albums grow in stature over time. . "You don't frighten us, English pig dogs. Go and boil your bottoms, sons of a silly person."

To b honest, it took til I saw it live to really get in to this album. I can't understand now why it took so long as it is truly a great album and one that I am playing at everyone's houses! The Hottest chip of them all - www.hotchip.co.uk - Get down with Prince

I think the main problem with the rainbow celebration was everybody came with there gaurd up, because around that time is when everybody knew he was studing jw. so right away they thought he was preaching to them. I didnt take it that way, i didnt find it no differnt from anyother cd he talked about god on.
But Ill tell you what that album is 10x better in concert cant wait until we get are one night alone cd I am the Dog Outside Yo Door,

I had a "reverse-experience" with TRC. Normally,it takes repeated listenings to feel a Prince release is good. I liked TRC right off, but not nearly so much now. Kinda tired of dealing with the whole fable everytime. I just wann hear some jams! I'd nix the filler trax and all that basso-profundo garbage and keep "Rainbow Children", "The Work, Pt. 1", "1+1+1 Is 3 ","Family Name ", "The Everlasting Now" and "Last December". This would be a great half album!!! test

Because initially it is a difficult album to listen to. This sounds like nothing Prince has ever done b4. Once u r patient and give the album a chance it grows on u. Personally I think it is a musical masterpiece and the album will grow in notoriety over time, and will someday become one of the albums Prince's career will be remembered for...ala Miles Davis - Kind of Blue.

the music is great. when you ignore the lyrical content, it's danceable. the sound system at the park doesn't seem to lend itself to the intelligible transmission of lyrics so.. hence the dancing
has to be my least-listened to album by P

"Personally I think it is a musical masterpiece and the album will grow in notoriety over time, and will someday become one of the albums Prince's career will be remembered for...ala Miles Davis - Kind of Blue." I agree it will be seen as one of his masterpieces, but I actually liken it more to Miles's "In A Silent Way", because "Kind Of Blue" was still fairly big/respected in its day. "In A Silent Way" was overlooked and did not sell much when it was released, but now it's seen as one of his most important albums spearheading the Jazz-Fusion movement. Some of the stuff in "The Rainbow Children" especially the last half of the first track are almost straight out of "In A Silent Way"! (that whole ride cymbal and cross-stick on beats 1,2,3 & 4 thing, and the bass line is almost identical as well). I liken "Sign O' The Times" to "Kind Of Blue" instead because of its simple stark quality. Toejam @ Peach & Black Podcast: http://peachandblack.podbean.com
