I'm going to guess that you're not aware that the Grammys show is REALLY at least a six hour affair so they do not air all of the categories. The show is already almost 4 hours long, so they start presenting categories hours before it actually airs on TV and it would be impossible to show all of it.

That's why they have a scroll at the bottom of the televised show that says something like "the following are Grammys presented earlier in the evening." Prince's category was one of these. Because it isn't televised a lot of artists don't show up for their own categories because they'd literally be there all day especially if they have to present or perform during the live show.

Oh, and there are online updates saying who has won even though the show wasn't on TV yet.
