who's gay up in here and were we attracted to prince because he was & is left of center. I know this has been asked before, but i'm curious how many are here and where are u. I'm in DC. I really knew prince was an animal of different colors when i heard controversy. That solidified my love for him. [This message was edited Wed Oct 23 16:29:02 PDT 2002 by tricky99]

I'm from Detroit!
I became a Prince fan, because I was practically raised on his music. My aunts and Mother are Prince fans. I remained a Prince fan, because it seems as id he's always in my head. Seems to know exactly what I'm thinkin' sometimes... Blue Times...times [This message was edited Sat Oct 26 14:58:26 PDT 2002 by TheBluePrince] Blue

i'm straight and what attracted me to Prince was the music first and foremost.
I like his image though, always have. He's a gutsy fella.I don't understand people that claim to like music but can't get over an image. We live in a world where people are put off his music purely cause of his shoes! weird huh?

High heels, big hair, mascara, sexy clothing aside, I NEVER thought Prince was gay. [This message was edited Wed Oct 23 17:04:53 PDT 2002 by UptownDeb]

definitely --
1999 was my first Prince album. His androgyny and raw sexuality pulled me in just before i was approaching my teens and starting to deal with being gay. I'm in L.A. http://elmadartista.tumblr.com/ http://twitter.com/madartista

Bi, not into him because I thought him Gay. No always Loved his Music and then well it didn't Hurt that he was gorgeous and sexy and Quite Unique . Man of My Dreams. Extroidinaire. I found him Breathtaking to Watch in concert and He was the Star in all of my Sexual Fantasies. No Man ever got me as excited like what Prince did to me at a concert! I have Gotten Off just on his Music. I know someday all he would have to do is sit me down and play the Piano for me Privately and I would just Feel such Overwhelming Joy and such Delight. This would Transcend all Physicality. I would be Happy and Serene. I Would be in Heaven. Another Comment I just gotta add; a long time ago Shelia e said when Prince approached her to record she said to him"I HAVE NOTHING to OFFER the PEOPLE as a SOLO Act." Prince made her Feel Comfortable and yes,she did Indeed have something to Offer as her Talent and Albums dictate. Also, somebody once in an Interview about Prince said "HE BRINGS OUT THE BEST IN PEOPLE." I Have Always Remembered these Words. Funny, Prince said recently,Shy? I'm not Shy! Definately,a Man that is as Free as he is Cannot be Shy! Why then does Everybody say he is Shy?? He is proving them wrong with being Close with the Fans at ONA. Interviews well, Interviewers aren't always Nice and Truthful and he wants the MYSTERY! Doesn't want us to Know cause he's PRIVATE. I wish he just told us All. Or just told me. I wouldn't tell Ever anyway. But he just Intrigues me and I find him Wonderfully Exciting. [This message was edited Wed Oct 23 20:18:17 PDT 2002 by Natasha]

100% Gay and live in Minneapolis!
I was attracted to the way he didn't see differences in people in race and sexual preference... wasn't attracted to him personally though. He sure is a pretty man though...

Gay in MPLS as well!!
I think I just liked P's sound and the fact that his racy lyrics drove my mom crazy...It's hard to remember since I've been listening to him sine I was in 2nd grade or somethin...

Gay and in Minneapolis.
Personally, I love the way the man deals with sexuality and spirituality in the same breath. Never had an attraction to him (though, of course, some folks always thought that I did). . . I believe that in Miles Davis' autobiography, he describes Prince as being "church to gay guys."

Bi, and it was a combination of music and image. I've never thought that Prince was Gay and wouldn't care if he was. It's the music first and foremost. His wild clothes and hair made me like him more because he had the balls to wear that stuff and still come off manly most of the time. Plus it made the music come alive. Talk about "Keeping it Real". I love his individuality. I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

[This message was edited Wed Oct 23 16:29:02 PDT 2002 by tricky99] Im Straight, I got into Prince a little bit when I first heard 1999 at a friend house. I bought the Album and really enjoyed it. Then PR happened, I was 13 year old then, I begged my Parents to bring me to see Purple Rain, they did and Seeing the Live music being performed, the energy of it all attracted me permantly then. His music always helps me when I am feeling down. I have never turned back from his music and never will.

gay and living in the Netherlands. Since I was 7 when an older cousin of mine taped some songs from the PR lp and some of the ATWIAD album for me, so his looks or image or whatever didn't have anything to do with me liking his music. What I cherished when I was old enough to know I was gay (and old enough to know a bit of the english language) was this part in "Pop life":
"...what's the matter with your world, was it a boy when U wanted a girl, don't u know straight hair ain't got no curl..." Prince probably meant other things with it, but for me it meant: did U fall in love with a boy and not with a girl (which you would have liked becuase then you'd be normal) well being straight isn't everything (it ain't got no curl,,,) That helped me. I have asked this more often on discussions and everyone laighed about my explanation. Well, it worked for me...

Well, if it worked for you, that's all that matters.

I'll respond. I'm straight, but had a lot of gay friends. I remember how the ones who I knew who were into Prince used to argue me to exhaustion that he was gay and why - from his walk, to the way he pursed his lips or waved his hand. I was pretty much like, whatever, not like any of us were gonna be screwing him, so what was the point? LQ
