Actually, I had just been listening to this cd over the weekend. Hadn't listened to it in awhile, and while listening was wondering why I hadn't listened to it for so long. I think it is a great cd. Love his acoustic play. Where u wanna eat 2nite, baby? I know this dope spot called one another!

I listen to it frequently. Love most of the tracks on there. I almost catch a heart attack shaking my stuff to Fascination.

Dionne is THE tune on his last great album, aside from the Vault (b'cos it's old stuff) i don't listen to anything of P's since the Truth. On my top 10 Prince albums list only SOTT is higher.

The Truth is an excellent CD...I absolutely love Prince's vocals on "Don't Play Me" and "Circle Of Amour"...heartfelt and soulful...and the melodies are so strong on both those tunes...also love "3rd Eye"...that song has lots of energy for it only being him and his guitar...

Gurl, Dionne is a very good tune but I could do without that cartoon keyboard's sound,,UGH. Anyway, The truth and TRC are MASTERPIECES. Strong statments, good lyrics and amazing music.

I've never stopped.
This is one CD that gets frequent play. Was just listening to One of Your Tears a few days ago. Serious pain.

Nooo, u couldn't b more wrong...lol! It's partly the cartoon keyboard sound that makes the song so great. It's cheesy as hell, but...

Couldn't we all use a little more of THE TRUTH?
Love it!! Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

"The Truth" kicks ass!!!
Disc 4: The Truth (previously unreleased acoustic album) The Truth 03:34 Don’t Play Me 02:48 Circle of Amour 04:43 3rd Eye 04:53 Dionne 03:13 Man In A Uniform 03:07 Animal Kingdom 04:01 The Other Side Of The Pillow 03:21 Fascination 04:55 One Of Your Tears 03:27 Comeback 01:59 Welcome 2 The Dawn (Acoustic Version) I guess the last 4 songs are my favs -- Circle of Amour is such a Joni Mitchell song. He clearly channeled it from somewhere in the 70's. Lost my copy -- gotta re-order. http://elmadartista.tumblr.com/ http://twitter.com/madartista

when it came out, i thought it was something to hang our hopes on. then came NPS, making the Truth all the better.
i've listened to it recenlty, though, and i don't think it's aged well. the lyrical subject matter is all over the map, but not in a good way. the socio-political songs are forced and amateurish and the love songs are juvenile. and there's not enough variation in the music to hold my interest past the first 6 songs or so

i listen 2 it all the time, one of my favorites.

I haven't listened to it in a while but it is excellent. I love The Truth, Don't Play Me, Dionne, MAn In A Uniform and my favorite is Fasination. How could you not like that song? But Animal Kingdom, it makes me laugh because it's so bad, but not so bad that it's not listenable. Easily one of his best in the 90's. I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

i really like the album... Equal to One nite alone...

From a musical standpoint and to a fellow guitar player, it's pretty hard to beat. I think the songwriting is tops.
I'll take this over The Vault, The Rainbow Children and One Nite Alone as far as serious recent releases.

I do remember Uptown was pretty savage (though not entirely off base) with their review. Personally, I think it's a pretty mixed bag with some excellent stuff (Don't Play Me, Comeback, Welcome 2 The Dawn) and some crap (Circle Of Amour makes my skin crawl) but definitely one of his more interesting releases of the 90's

Great album, not what I expected back then. I thought I asz going to get accoutic songs (like accoustic versions of all his hits). It is a very interesting disc.
I remember listening to old pre For You out takes like 'do you wanna ride'( I think that's what it was called) where he played quite a bit of nifty accoustic guitar. I always wondered if that was actgually him playing since he's never played it on any of his released records. After hearing the Truth I was relieved to know that he was a good player. HOwever, I 've often wondered since, for a man who can play that well - doesn't he ever get the urge to record more accoustic material ? Or at least play more accoustically ? Why does he go so overboard with his productions ?

Well, anyway I loved Don't Play Me at the concert, entertaining and honest. Great guitar work and raw. I think that is why I loved it, cause I love to hear Prince play/sing raw. I love it. Just like Beautiful Strange, simple and beautiful. Simplistic beautiful, soulful, energetic music. Music from the heart. I am not saying the Truth album is like that, in fact it has been so long since I heard the album. I need to get another copy from somewhere to reassess it.
Anyhow. Thanks for sharing you thoughts. Oh, and I really agree on the point about superior versions of tracks being on prerelease boots and then the official album releases get overproduced versions. I felt that way about many tracks off graffiti bridge. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

funkylust said: Has anybody gone back to listen to The Truth? I LOVED Don't Play Me acoustic at London 5/10/02 (Sat nite), I really wish I have my The Truth CD, I left it in Australia... Man it was a hot performance. I can still hear it in my head...
Definitely among the best albums he released in the 90s. I don't know why he didn't release as a stand-alone album as opposed to burying it inside "Crystal Ball".

I enjoyed The Truth (far more than TRC). From time to time I pull it out and listen to it. There's something about that album, and I cant put my finger on it, but it doesn't sound like the Prince we all know.

I find this is to be a VERY loud disc... . "You don't frighten us, English pig dogs. Go and boil your bottoms, sons of a silly person."
