Has anybody gone back to listen to The Truth?

Has anybody gone back to listen to The Truth? I LOVED Don't Play Me acoustic at London 5/10/02 (Sat nite), I really wish I have my The Truth CD, I left it in Australia... Man it was a hot performance. I can still hear it in my head...

Yes, I have. It made me remember what we are missing in his current work. Raw, meaningful energy, and pure sound. I personally don't like his current "filler" music...

The Rainbow Children is no filler music to me! It may not be your style, or you don't like the lyrics, but musically I could never call it filler.

The Truth is great, I agree!

I love that song too!!! I also really like Other Side of the Pillow as well. It's just really cool to hear that accoustic sound of Prince. I'd like to see him do more in the future.

don't u just hate when people regard something as filler just because they don't like it. There is way too much energy and craft in everything on TRC to consider it filler.
How the hell could anybody with a brain think "last december" or "everlasting now" is filler. Way to much heart & soul there for it to be filler. If u don't like something fine, but to call something filler that prince obviously worked hard on is a slap in the face to Prince or any other creator.

Then again, you might be considered brainless for raving incessantly about something others would consider filler.

TRON

Yes, one of my favorites. He's never had an album like it before or since. Excellent playing and songwriting.

And the last 2 songs on TRC and The Truth are my favorites on each album. Anything but filler to me.

Hey pfunkjazz i didn't say they were my favorite songs. I just know effort when i hear it. Filler is when an artist is performing something they don't care about. Prince cares about those songs that is self-evident

FYI - Filler to ME means all the stuff he adds to the album, like the voice speaking in between tracks...he did that on the symbol album too. I think I missed something...filler somehow got connected with me not liking the songs on TRC? lol

It could very well be, that in my haste to post, I didn't make myself clear.

No wonder things sometimes end up in a tangled mess, LOL.

I actually like some of the songs on TRC. Certainly the playing is monumental and the science-fictiony themes are kinda nice, but the production effects ruin it for me.

I really don't get the flow on THE TRUTH.
That was the freebie with CRYSTAL BALL right?
Sounded like Prince's version of "Switched ON CLASSICS"?

I always thought of The Truth as a fun/unique collection of songs that was meant for the hardcore fans. I never considered it a real "album".

I listen to it once in a while, but it's not that memorable for me. I think it's because it contains Prince's absolute WORST songs IMO (Animal Kingdom & Man In A Uniform), that somehow they tainted the rest of the CD.

I really love Welcome 2 The Dawn, Fascination, and 3rd Eye. They deserved to be on a real album. Don't Play Me and The Truth are B-sides at best.

What I Love about that song is when he has his voice change like he says"DON't Play Me I Already Do In My Car." he goes down with his voice kinda Gutteral. I dig that the way his voice drops some Octaves. Then A Man In A Uniform that Trumpet blowing,Animal Kingdom is like Off and All. And the Effects. Prince has the Sound effects which is Kinda Avant Garde and Enoish/New-Agey. I am Digging on the fact that he's so into different Vibes,Sounds it's all Exciting. This has Always Been his Trademark being a Bit-Off so Unique. Just dig he is so Darn Different and So First and On with things. Enjoyment in the Zenith.

How can an album with that verse on it NOT B great?
One of my fave albums.

Ive always thought The Truth was Princes' take on an unremarkable or ordinary music style. Little and typical use of synths, different from his overbearing use of it, basic arrangements etc. The basic acoustic and othe r instrumentation...its like Prince doing "normal" music. Its a trip but its not bad.

I would rate The Truth as the best CD of the 90s - real songs - each with a point or story to tell and each delivered direct.

The Undertaker was the second best set of the 90s, next to the The Truth - again super simple, great songs and not over-produced.

The man always does best when he keeps it simple - look at Endorphinemachine on the Gold Experience - fantastic on bootleg pre-release, smothered in over-production when finally on CD.
