I sooooo wish Prince would do stuff with Rock acts, enough of this R&B/ ripping off Old Friends for Sale crap. He has done that for almost a decade!

Foo Fighters
Audio Slave
John Fruschante
Chilli Peppers

Grow some balls Prince and play with guys with talent. Enough of this other glossy horseshit.

These kind of comments have always disturbed me. I remember some people around here making these kinds of comments about the line up of acts at 3121. Although Prince has successfully fused myriad musical genres to produce his own unique sound, he has always been more R&B and Funk than anything. I don't think the R&B work is "glossy horseshit" at all. His collabs with both established and new R&B acts have produced some really great music. I don't know what "growing balls" has to do with anything either as Prince has never exhibited fear when it comes to performing the music that he wants to perform whether folks dig it or not. I also don't think he has an aversion to folks with talent as he has routinely played with some of the best musicians around.

Yes, he can rock hard when he wants to and I love it, but Soul, R&B and Funk are really Prince's roots, and I love that too. His ability to navigate them all with ease is what makes him Prince.

No eye'm pretty sure that Prince won an Oscar 4 best song in a movie, last year. "Song of the Heart" heart came out 2 late in the year 2006 to win a Grammy. penguin The deadline 4 release is Sept. 30th, at least that's what GRAMMY.com says..shrug

Was it an Oscar? I do remember him winning something for Song of the Heart barf (remember, Justin Timberlake accepted for him). But regardless of Grammy or Oscar, I think that link is old---this year he's nominated for Planet Earth crap barf:

Best Male R&B Performance
Future Baby Mama - Prince

(I thought he was nominated for a couple, but FBM was all I could find on the Grammy website.)

he won a Golden Globe 4 "Song Of The Heart"

Prince is nominated 4 2 Grammys this year:

Best R n B Male "Future Baby Mama" from Planet Earth

Best Song from a Movie "Song Of The Heart" from Happy Feet

"Song Of The Heart" was released on Oct. 31st, 2006, which was not eligible 4 the 2007 grammys but was eligible 4 this years.

Thanks for the clarification. smile (Not a fan of either song that's nominated, more interested in The Time's performance at this point...)

The Time - featuring uber-producer Jimmy Jam in his old job as keyboardist - rehearse their hit Jungle Love which segued into Rihanna singing her hits, Umbrella and Please Don't Stop The Music, complete with male dancers, women with umbrellas - natch- and pyro effects.

Starr could be seen in full dance mode while Stewart, in '80s reminiscent black leather pants, merely bobbed his head in time to the music.

----

The Time's vocalist Morris Day certainly seemed to be enjoying himself on Saturday afternoon as he rehearsed at the Staples Centre with his former bandmates for their first performance in 18 years that will take place on the Grammys telecast.

"Sixty-five million worldwide, that's my kinda crowd," said Day after coming off the stage, referring to the estimated audience for Sunday night's awards show.

"If feels awesome. Doesn't feel like an hour has passed."

He and his bandmates even broke out The Time's famed Jungle Love dance shuffle, which Day referred to as "The Penguin - that's the old school dance from back in the day.

Also present to hold up a mirror for Day to primp in during the song was Jerome Benton, a.k.a. The Mirror Man, also uber-producer Terry Lewis' brother in real-life.

Otherwise, The Time's old touring partner, Prince - also Day's rival in the film Purple Rain - is seated in the front row at the Staples Centre for the Grammys.

"He does that on purpose," joked Day. "I sit in the front row and I look at his band while he's playing and he does it to us. He's trying to intimidate me, I can't be intimidated."

---

Jimmy Jam, The Time's former keyboardist-turned-uber-producer, says his old '80s funk-dance
band from Minneapolis, reunited for The Grammys as a way to freshen up four-time Grammy nominee Rihanna's often-performed songs.

"One of our challenges every year is to take songs which have obviously have been heard a lot and have been played a lot on the radio and been performed on other award shows, how do you make them fresh for the Grammys and many times we do that through pairing of acts," said Jam, in the Kinerase gift lounge in a tent beside the Staples Centre.

Jam, who also is the chairman of the board of trustees for NARAS who put on the Grammys, has his hands full these days working on new albums by Jennifer Hudson and Usher with his longtime producing partner Terry Lewis.

"Jennifer, she's a soul singer, just creating soulful songs for her, and letting her do her thing, and Usher, it's all about growth, he really is looking sort of the next level, whatever that means, we don't necessarily know, but we think better lyrically, a little deeper songwriting, that's what we're trying to do," he said.
