funny thing is, Prince probably paid alot less than $800 for his guitar.

That's one ugly guitar | |

Maybe it would like better with a different pickguard

And a regular colored headstock

in 1980? I hope so! It's not an outrageous price for a decent guitar w/case. But I agree that I don't like the headstock. My Legacy

Appreciate the link and pics, but... damn, that thing looks like it was sculpted with a dull chainsaw.
It's too bad. They could have made a decent looking product. That is a serious Frankenhohner... Chloreen Baconhohner... Dick In The Mashed Potatohohner... If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

Looks nice. Not into the signature guitar craze though. I wonder how long it'll take Prince to try and sue them Maybe we can go to the movies and cry together

I don't understand why they can't just re-make the original? Silence Speaks A Thousand Words.

Prince and Websheriff probably threatened to sue they asses if they did. Maybe Prince "owns the copyright" like he (thinks he) does with everything else tangentially related to him.

I guess people won't buy it. From what I understand this is actually closer to Prince's actual guitar (similar pickups and all that) than the originals are. If they made the originals I might looks into it, but I'm not paying $800 for Prince's name and what HE wants in a guitar. Maybe we can go to the movies and cry together

I like the other guitar that looks very similar to that one, that Prince uses most of the time. "The Lion Sleeps Tonight...

Well I put in my order for "The Artist" Elite version of this reissue. It has the leopard pickguard and it's a much closer replica of Prince's Hohner than that one for $800. It can be found at that same Web site that Jseven posted the link to. It's listed at $2,500, but they're selling it at $1795.

I believe that Fender had issues with the headstock looking too close to theirs. The "te Prinz/Prinz te" and "The Prinz" and these two new Hohners are similar to Prince's custom, but miss the mark. Prince's Hohner amalgam has a blonde Maple body which gives it that "Purple" tone and a neck with the feel of a true early Telecaster. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

Apart from the headstock its quite nice...I was going to shell out £300 for a Hagstrom but if this is available for lefties I might be tempted. Fuck the funk - it's time to ditch the worn-out Vegas horns fills, pick up the geee-tar and finally ROCK THE MUTHA-FUCKER!! He hinted at this on Chaos, now it's time to step up and fully DELIVER!!

Ditto on that oogly headstock. They could have come up with something alot closer to a Tele-type headstock without stepping on any toes at Fender. I know it's purely aesthetic but that would be a deal breaker for me considering the price.
You could probably spec out really nice Tele-style guitar sourced from Warmoth parts for around the same price as the lower end reissue. Just my 2+ cents LOL! [Edited 2/6/08 11:33am]

Yo!
Even though I have not understood a single word of guitar jargon that has been posted so far, is it still cool for me to post on this thread? I mean, obviously I'm not an aficionado or anything, but I did nail the solo to the "Final Countdown" on my Guitar Hero III earlier today.... // [Edited 2/6/08 6:43am]

O.K. Serious question, would you buy this OR a Fender 72 Telecaster?. Personally I prefer the Fender Thinline 72 Telecaster, it's lovely to play, great tone, looks great and is lighter than a standard Tele.

if you are tempted just bear in mind that Prince changed the set up on his guitar ,most importantly the Pick Ups which I think were Kinman? from Australia. Just cuz it looks like his guitar does NOT mean it will sound like it. For THAT sound you need a Boss pedal rig and above all else a god given ability to play like an angel. P could make rubber bands sound funky!.

Check out this thread for some discussion:
http://prince.org/msg/15/258873 The thing to note is that this is not the guitar Prince initially bought (prince's techs have made all sorts of modifications to the original guitar, so recreating the original as Prince bought it wouldn't make much sense if you want to sound like Prince does on the albums)... They tried to make this the guitar Prince currently has... ie: they tried to include all the modifications that Prince made to the original Hohner telecaster he bought. [Edited 2/6/08 10:42am]

At the soundcheck for the ONA show in Cleveland, he said that he paid $25 for it from a gas station pawn shop on the way to the studio one day.
