Why has prince never been on any British chat shows?

Im talking about things like Friday Night with Jonathan Ross or Parkinson when it was still going. I think if he did it would change alot of peoples attitude towards him in England and they would see hes just a down to earth funny guy who just happens to be a musical genius.

Good question, I would love him to do something like that. But, he really doesn't like doing interviews, and I think the only reason he does them at all is when he has something to promote. I think it's a trial for him a lot of the time. Shame though, because he's very funny, and you're right it would change a lot of people's perceptions of him - then again, does HE want that?! confused

He wouldn't go on JR's show anyway - too much swearing wink

Ross may be too crude for Prince and IMHO we haven't really got a great interviewer at the moment - however Tom Hanks was on Ross the other week and he was funnier than Ross and the comedian Chris Rock really very funny sorry i digress but it was funny
"C'mon y'all - let me hear you sing, c'mon y'all, shake, c'mon y'all, jump" - Yes Prince -
"London do you feel for me what I feel for you"- yes Prince -
"Can I play my guitar now?" - yes please

Highly unlikely. It would obviously be a big coup for any chat show to get such a reclusive guest.

The closest we got was when Mel B of the Spice Girls interviewed him (we'll forget about his masked 'interview' for the Sunday Show).

British people have a sense of humor. Prince does not. Very few people want to listen to Prince talking about nothing but Jehovah & be evasive & cryptic on all other topics for an entire program.

He's a shitty, difficult interview and people know it. That's why you don't see more of him being interviewed.

Maybe it's being comfortable with the humour. Prince has been on The Tonight Show and has been funny and relaxed. Sometimes people just change in different environments. I always see Bruce Willis joking about and being a right laugh when he goes on Letterman, but when he comes to do Jonathan Ross he's SO boring.

There are a select few American stars who really let themselves go when they come here though. The Big Breakfast was a great way to figure out who was safe and who was a dullard. Oddly enough even Tom Cruise got it when he went at the bottom of the garden to do the "shed" interview with Johnny Vaughan. Samuel L Jackson, Will Smith and Tom Hanks were always the best on that show though.

man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

That was a funny "interview". Veronica would ask a question, Prince covered his mouth with his hand and whispered the reply to Mayte, then Mayte answered for Prince! It reminded me of The Sooty Show (UK kids puppet show where a glove puppet teddy bear would "talk" to the presenter and he would tell us what Sooty had just said) lol

funniest part is when mayte replied who did ur hair and veronica said his mama ..then tora tora stood up like he was about 2 whoop some ass lol

Jonathan Ross would be the perfect show as Ross is a massive Prince fan , one of his favourite albums of all time is the Madhouse 8 album ,and has previously stated his desire to interview Prince , also I think Prince missed a great opportunity in not making a "Later..." type show this summer whilst residing in London.

yes 100% sure , i still have a magazine article from 1987 when Ross first appeared on British T.V and intrestingly enough he's top 5 album of 1987 included 3 Paisley Park releases i.e Madhouse 8 , Sign o' the times and Jill Jones's album , he's also a massive James Brown and Maceo Parker fan.

Jonathan Ross said on his radio show that he didn't go to any of the O2 shows. I knew he was a James Brown fan cos he had JB on his show a few times.

Yeah, and definitely Prince could/should have done a Later... special with Jools Holland.

He has been on a British talk show with Maceo and the gang, the interviewer was asking him such silly questions that he got up and walked out and the guys followed him, I saw the video. nod

He was going to do a Chris Evans interview to promote the release of Emancipation, but pulled out. Evans went mad and bad-mouthed Prince on air - possibly having some impact on sales. Curiously, Prince did go on to perform Evan's show - but did no interview.
