I think the problem is its not up to us 2 decide what he relases and what hes not 2(and never will thank god) i geniunley love all Princes albums(well the 27 i own and hav heard) its up 2 the artist what he wants 2 release and u always get people saying about great musicians that hav bin around 4 a long"well its now where near as good as there old stuff' i enjoy all of Princes music i even loved Planet Earth,I think the problem with People is they dont like 2 see there fav artists evolve or change musicaly.I know his music has changed since he went into a J.W with lyrics less Dirty etc yadda yadda and 2 be honest i dont think many musicians(even P) can make new sounds or do something new, simply beacause theres so much out there now it seems to be getting harder, also new artists and music 2day(well mostly) is as about as intresting to me as yesterdays shit! Im sure that P could do another album thats Rock orientated like Purple Rain but we forget hes bin there and got the t-shirt.Lastly if all them legends that hav bin around 25 yrs + and P are happy doing the music THEY want to do then frankly so am I biggrin .because they hav worked hard for many years and they deserve 2 do what they want 2 do,not what WE want them to do nod also even if the next was a great album 90% of fans would still moan cause its in are nature to find flaws.especially for an artist who is prolific and bin around as long as P - thank you - peace cool

on point with the xception of planet earth liking disbelief big grin
man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

Purple Rain, Chaos and Disorder and The Undertaker are probably the best examples of a "rock" album by P. I can still see P doing another one as he probably considers the ones I've mentioned rock albums. As indeed they are. Purple Rain, minus a few cuts, is a full fledged rock album. But he needed a pop masterpiece in When Doves to get it off the ground. If P truly wanted to do one, and make it like I know he's fully capable of doing,....he would have long since done it by now.

Never, because it'd be too well received.

Very good post. Because it's true.

He won't. He's never stuck to one genre of music. I think that's why we're all are fans of his. You can't put him in a box. He even said in interviews that he wanted to play all types of music.

The closest you'll probably ever come is either Purple Rain or Chaos & Disorder.

thumbs up! Absolutely! Chaos & Disorder would B the closest we'll get!

Okay, I've had a few days to think this over and I've listened to some music to give myself some other things to consider.

Somehow, putting "rock music" and Prince in the same sentence feels a little weird because he's about so much more than that.

Although a lot of his rock songs are good...

I never really answered the question this first. But the truth of the matter is that I don't think I'd want Prince to do an all-rock album. Not that I have anything against rock music, but having just "guitar, bass and drums" would just get boring after a while. Prince had said once that there's only so much you can do with a guitar. Sooner or later, repetition might occur and that's generally something that Prince doesn't do (and if so, not very well)... with the except of the song "Joy in Repetition"...

But if Prince ever did do a "full-fledged" rock album, it had better be REALLY good. And by good, I mean with variation, not all tracks being of the same mood or from the same vein of emotion.

Prince is a brilliant artist because he plays all kinds of music and pulls it off wonderfully. I'd like him to continue to do that. He's also the best guitar player I've heard (as far), but he's about more than guitar

A rock album or anything he does has to be combined with the right lyrics and it has to have heart/soul. cool
had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong. It started raining, baby, the birds were gone

Have you or anyone heard the unreleased stuff he did with MARGIE COX?? Circa...1990 balloons

It's the heaviest stuff and fastest I've heard Prince do...songs like R U THERE, WE CAN HANG.. sounds like a boss Metal Zone pedal with chorus, delay..the same tone schemes he was using on the NUDE TOUR, pure guitar razzle dazzle. Some of this material is pretty good. I have 9 songs for this album, M.C. FLASH..they worked on over 25 songs... xmas

There is NO interest there on his part.
