What is Wrong With Yall? - The Nude Tour Concert is Wonderful

I've seen so many on here rate the Nude tour as one of his worst. I just watched it from beginning to end and I thought it was great. It had an incredible version of Purple Rain, Bambi, one of the best renditions I've heard of Alphabet Street, Do Me Baby (that was sweet), and incredible closing of Baby I'm a Star, which I like much much better than breaks he uses with Renato.

Now for the girly part razz , his body was tight, he had a nice romp and he was naughty as hell....

back to being serious...Rosie Gaines was awesome and for the first time I thought the three guys dancing with him worked really well.

My only complaint is that the Batman songs just doesn't work well live for me, and he stripped Sexy Dancer of all its funkness, not to mention Kiss didn't sound like, well...Kiss.

Anyone agree?

Nude was the first Prince concert I went to and I have to say I was bitterly dissapointed. He just appeared to be treading water, going through the motions. Compared to the footage I'd seen of earlier tours it just didn't measure up at all. shrug

Diamonds and Pearls tour a couple of years later was a whole 'nother story. That show was the shit!

but was the Nude tour bad or is it that people were still blown away by the insanity of the Lovesexy tour and this just seem tamed. To me he looked like he was into the performances, but with a regular stage.

It was meant to mean back to basics focusing on the music rather than theatrics. Also there were no horns in the band and the arrangements were more stripped down and there were fewer medleys.

that's what i liked about it, oh and one more minor thorn. I thought I heard a bass in When Doves Cry and it didn't feel right lol i so used to the original version.

personnaly michael b who was new to the band at the time, ruined alot of the songs with drum programming. kiss and 1999 sound lifeless and horrible.

however the shows vary between exellent and awfull. as the tour went on the band got tighter and much better.

The bassline in When Doves Cry has been played live since the Purple Rain tour. But I agree it just sounds wrong! confused

The nude tour, first concert I saw from P and the first time he visited the emerald isle.

I cant say it was great, D&P, GOLD, O2 and even Lovesexy on vid were better, but the last 15 mins, with 1999 & Baby I´m a Star mixed together was sensational, with that P had the place bouncing around like idiots cool
If it were not for insanity, I would be sane.

^ You saw him at The Point then which is much more intimate than the enormous, horrible Birmingham NEC where I caught the tour. There was no atmosphere whatsoever. even the people down the front looked underwhelemed. hmm

I saw P at the point in 95, TWICE

he tore the house down, probably to this day the best concerts I have ever been to or seen.

just for the trivia part, the place where I was getting my bootlegs burnt down on the night of the second gig lol

I'm with you sis, I thought it was great. I can do without all the gimmicks and theatrics of a Lovesexy type show. I loved the Musicology tour for the same reason. thumbs up!

As for the girly part, what can I say? I always loved him with a beard and long hair...we ain't even gonna talk about that jumpsuit...mercy! lol

Now here's the funny thing.

When I saw the Nude Tour I was disappointed. It just seemed a lot flatter to me than the previous time (Well, it was Lovesexy the last time).

But musically, listening to boots of the Nude tour is infinitely more satisfying than listening to boots of the Lovesexy tour.
Ultimately, the Nude tour was like a big-scale version of an aftershow gig - Prince jamming, and including hits along with the more obscure stuff during those jams. Musically, it was much more satisfying, but a lot of us didn't realise that at the time. Seeing and hearing it in retrospect, it makes a lot more sense.

But Batdance really didn't work live.

It was a bland and boring tour compared to those before and after.
That year, Madonna blew him out of the water with the "Blonde Ambition" Tour.

Even watching the footage is boring. Which show were you watching? The Tokyo show or the La Caruna show?

Now the La Caruna one is really like watching paint dry.
The 90-min Japanese version of the Tokyo concert is great, cos its all shown in the wrong order, but I think that actually improves it.

I've never seen the edited 60-min US version. Does this work better?
I saw an interesting clip a while back where the Cameras follow him from the off-stage corridor into a lift before he emerges to perform Partyman. I don't recall this being in the Japanese version. Is it from the US version, or is it an outake?

bfore watching the lovesexy concert in germany this was my favourite P tour, i like the flow of the tokyo bootleg a lot...

-the batman tracks do work, i think, and blend in nice with other tracks and 'improvisations', what he does with the james brown samples is just funky
-i'm liking the chant he does with levi seacer jr. a lot!! so smooth... as well as the rosie gaines parts
-the instrumentation in do me, baby is just wonderful
-and i think the bass added in when doves cry is just so funky

never seen the live footage though but this tokyo edit bootleg concert had a very nice flow!! one of his best

Rosie and Prince had amazing chemistry. Much more to me than Prince and Shelby even though I'm a big fan of Shelby.

oh lawd that jumpsuit!. Another perfect example of an outfit that is strangely and uniquely sexy but one where only one man in the entire world can get away with wearing. lol

Yeah, the Tokyo concert was originally broadcast with the songs in a different
order to what was actually played on the night. Some boots corrected the order
though.

If it starts with 'Take Me With U' then it's in the wrong order.
If it starts with 'The Future' then it's in the correct order.

To me its one of Prince's better tours especially the line up of some of the songs played. And by the way When Doves Cry is the best it has ever been played live during the Nude Tour. Miko and Levi were killer on the bass and guitar on the song.
