Appreciate the Beauty of "When 2 R in Love" If I'm not mistaken, this is the last of the love songs Prince wrote with Susannah in mind.
Everything from the lyrics to his vocals and the music... all of it is gorgeous. Anyone else love this ballad as much as I do? had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong. It started raining, baby, the birds were gone

When the vocals weren't gorgeous enough to begin with... when he gets to the chorus and the music starts to build up... the first time I heard the song threw me for such a loop... and of course, I didn't expect anything like THAT to be on The Black Album... its refreshing, but at the same time, its a pity that is among material that is quite the opposite of it.
i.e. Sex/Lust > Love had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong. It started raining, baby, the birds were gone

One of my very favorites. Simply gorgeous, and perfectly sequenced on the album. I've seen the future, and boy it's rough...

"Absolutely Stunningly Gorgeous!"
I LOVE the Lovesongs, so much so that they were the subject of my first ever thread. What I feel makes this song stand out from Princes other Love songs, is how pure, sensual and innocent Princes desctription is of a sexual act, compared with his more usual style that is more blatant, graphic, suggestive, raunchy, and sometimes even down right dirty! When 2 R in Love is the perfect portrayal of Sensual intimacy as opposed to Sexual intimacy! It's not 2 people having sex, but 2 people making true LOVE! A Masterpiece! Life's a Parade! LoveLife, LoveSexy!

OH, I agree... that must be why I like it enough to start a thread about it. Just as a curiosity, does anyone happen to know if there's a story behind its creation? Who/What event inspired it? and so on? U know me and wanting to know the backstories of different songs and such. I've got my own theories, but for all I know, I could be wrong. had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong. It started raining, baby, the birds were gone

a very visual song in the mind ..and the chords are very trippy 2 per4m man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

Do you not think that the 'b4 we do anything, let me just talk 2 U' represents patience, respect, and that love is not just about being physical, but mental as well. I can't help but think that if it was 'When 2 r in lust' the opening lines would probably be closer to..... "I'm lusting so much there's no time to talk.....Just get your kit off and let's shag!!!!!" Life's a Parade! LoveLife, LoveSexy!

Girls can make the first move too, ya know??? Ha, ha! Maybe he needed to state that he wanted talk, to stall her advances long enough to recite his poetry to her and set the mood. If this song was written for a particular female lady and this is the case, then she's also likely to be the same inspiration for 'Glam Slam, Thank you MA'M! Life's a Parade! LoveLife, LoveSexy!

Obviously I love it. I was really into this song around the time when I first came here, hence my user name.
But what makes you think this song was/is about Susannah?? Some people think I'm kinda cute
But that don't compute when it comes 2 Y-O-U.

But what makes you think this song was/is about Susannah?? It was the 80's and since most of his love ballads were inspired by here (The Beautiful Ones, Condition of the Heart, 4ever in my Life, Adore, etc.), this one was of that quality. I don't know if what his relationship status was at this time. I assume that it was written about Susannah because this was around the time I'm guessing either they were still together or they had just broken up. The Black Album was full of material he wrote during a troubled time in his life. Susannah could have been part of that equation. But I'm just guessing here given what I already know. had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong. It started raining, baby, the birds were gone

If you don't know Prince's relationship status at that time, then you can't honestly say that When 2 R In Love was about Susannah or anybody inparticular for that matter. Also When 2 R In Love is from the Lovesexy album(1988). Around that time 1987 and 1988. I believe Prince was fooling around with Sheila E. Nobody but Prince can say what song was written for who or inprired by who. Nobody can say but the man who wrote the song. Prince is an artist and not every thing he creates has to have some kinda significants to it. He can just be writing from the heart. Not every love song from mid to late 80's that he created was about this woman named Susannah. You never know what is/was going on in the mind of Prince, except Prince. Some people think I'm kinda cute
But that don't compute when it comes 2 Y-O-U.

That's a very good song. Very visual. You mind can really take you places with this song. Prince should have released this as a single when Lovesexy was out. I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

Get the hell out of that box. Anyone would think you were confessing to a deep seated affection for "Hot With You". And yes, this song is magic. The beat, the keyboard runs, the imagery, and Prince's voice all add up to something only P could pull off. Beautiful and disturbing at the same time. “The man who never looks into a newspaper is better informed than he who reads them, inasmuch as he who knows nothing is nearer to truth than he whose mind is filled with falsehoods and errors.”

I HATE Adore and Do Me Baby though. Actually, if he wanted to really snatch mainstream again, he could drop a hits record of all his cheese and/or do a whole album of that bs. I'd buy it.

Teddy was way more conventional, and the production is nothing like Marvin's style. “The man who never looks into a newspaper is better informed than he who reads them, inasmuch as he who knows nothing is nearer to truth than he whose mind is filled with falsehoods and errors.”
