Hard Rock Park unveiled the giant guitar icon on Thursday that visitors will see as they walk into the main part of the park-the world's largest Gibson guitar.
The 70-foot tall Gibson, a Les Paul supreme with a cherry sunburst pattern, will sit atop a 20-foot-tall, 600-square-foot Gibson retail store. It will be the centerpiece of a nighttime pyrotechnic, laser and fireworx show.
"Whatever lights up or blows up, It's in our show," said Megan Winnett, a park spokeswoman.
The theme park set to open April 15, is 55 acres of rides, retail, restaurants, performance space and amusements on 140 acres. Park CEO Steven Goodwin said construction is on time and below the $400 million budget.
The Gibson retail store and gallery will feature guitars such as the self-tuning Robot guitar. Part of the walkway into the park will be designed as a Gibson Vegas High Roller guitar, and the bottom of the guitar will form a lookout plaza over the lagoon, enclosed in a railing made of guitar shapes.
It's the latest touch the park has rolled out to the media and the public since crews broke ground July 13, 2006. Others have included revealing that the park's signature ride would be synchronized to legendary rock band Led Zeppelin's song "Whole Lotta Love"; a ride set to The Moody Blues' "Night's in White Satin"; its Bear Family mascot characters; and a rock version of the Statue of Liberty.
Although, The Park is keeping some details close to its tattered leather vest-executives refused to say which song would play during the night time show, for instance- Goodwin said the park was much more open than other companies by showing bits and pieces of what was going on.
"We're about rock and roll," he said. "We're about behind-the-scenes. We want people to know what's going on.

Wow! That's very cool, but we knew all about it...
I'll be sure to bring enough money to buy a "Gibson" guitar, on my way out ov the "Hard Rock Park" after a splendid headbangin' day. Maybe I'll have so much fun I will fall asleep on the beach that day...

LOL ~ Tame you are too cute.

Every November we go to Myrtle Beach (in-laws rent a condo during November when it's too dang cold to enjoy the beach!) and we actually passed the new theme park. Didn't see the guitar but did see the rollercoaster they were building. As a side note, the park is in a very busy shopping area. Just another way to bring in more of the tourists money.

man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81
