198219831999 blah blah So,like, I mentioned that I am playing 'extra loveable","purple music" et al so much that now when I speak I only speak in lyrics from that period. It's crazy. I am also into 'horny toad" and so forth!
Well,I played the 1999 album on my digital jukebox at the gym and was impressed with how well it works as exercise motivation. Also, I just think 1999 is just so brilliant; It was a futuristic funk/rock artist talking about the future with futuristic instruments and it's pulled off to perfection. The title song sounds like a freaking machine!!! Listen to it! Yet,it's catchy and funky as all hell!! The song "automatic" and "free" have those qualities,as well. It's like a funky robot! Then, don't forget "something in the water",which is one of my all-time fave Prince songs!! Crazy! The album is brilliant,I tell ya'! It's totally Prince and ,yet,it's more robotic than anything he has done! Think and hear "purple music","lady cab driver",and "all the critics". These songs are undoubtably funky. The former and latter are quintessentially Prince with quirkiness,a little claustrophibia,well-constructed and busy, yet totally satisfyingly syncopated beats, and multiple hooks and chants. Fantastic! And all three have a hint of jazziness to them, but redefined by a genius in his early twenties. This was a stellar and fertile period for Prince's Purple Movement. It is well in the past, but because he was looking to the future, I still feel it and it makes me believe in it for my future. The purpleness means you take all in what is there, but you blend it and remix it with what you are and kick the door in on convention to stamp what isn't even there, yet. This is why we are free. I totally agree with the workout music...70 minutes of sweat. I even like the slow songs for weights and stretching. | |
