try and get Exodus as well and couple it back 2 back with TGE and u will find that Prince hasn't been this funky since then or more on point
man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

I actually listened to "Exodus" for the first time a few weeks ago. It's a pretty good album. But I must admit, I prefer "New Power Soul".

Sad, but true.

Imago

I played the shit out of it when I first heard it.

I think it's the last Prince album that I didn't have to skip tracks. Now when I listen to it, I skip tracks, but that's true with PR, 1999, and SOTT.

I rank The Gold Experience up there with his best. It's mixed a bit loud lol, and the whole cyber-seque thing is dated, but it's a great great album.

I love it when Prince is showing off.

one of my favorites also. i haven't listened to it in a long time, but i love just about every song (except maybe we march, but even that one i can deal with. it fits in.). too many segues, but they are all pretty short so it doesn't mess with the flow too much. love this album. especially eye hate u, gold and shhh.

It is an album I enjoy and listen to regular, however I cannot put my finger on why I dont "love" it.
For what it's worth I think it was a great album live, Forgive me if my memory's failing:

While waiting for P the screens kept advertising the Gold Experience and the release date "never", Think it was during hs dispute with the record label!

Opened with P Control, but first rehearsed the crowd with the chorus (and yes we all tried to do it falcetto!)

Closed with Gold which felt "bigger" than on the album.

I remember the PA being huge for the venue

And lastly I am doubting my memory now, Did P fly on a wire?

^ From what I remember, it was Mayte who flew on a wire over the audience scattering handfuls of glitter!

One of his best shows IMO, loved it!

Classic opening...
Lights go down, the Purple Medley plays on the video screens.
Prince's voice comes over the PA and announces that
"Prince is dead... long live the New Power Generation"
Then the curtain drops and the band launch into a storming
version of 'Endorphinmachine' as Prince moves to the front
of stage on a conveyor belt built into the floor while playing
the guitar riff... arriving at the mic just in time to sing
the fist line!.... brilliant!

For sure...I do think he's topped this album since it came out really...he's come close with 3121 and Planet Earth, but for me this remains the last great Prince album, very underrated. Sshh is awesome, as is Gold, Endorphinemachince, 319, I Hate U, Shy and Most Beautiful Girl In The World.

Must admit, I hate Dolphin though! biggrin Never really "got" that track.

no it was either tommy while the "solo" during billy jack bitch..hard 2 call it a solo when tommy was just playing the dat from the hornheadz

mayte would fly on a wire given the venue 2 sprinkle gold sparkles on2 the crowd during gold

I know what you mean, I like it but I think when it came out I felt like I'd heard it before and better from Prince. I think he was really on fire live at this time though.

This was probably discussed already, but why was he performing The Gold Experience tracks on tour many months before the album came out? Makes no sense...

becuase the album was finished as early as late 1993.

he wanted tro release it in 1994 but he wernt allowed. thus him changing hes name and only performing new songs, not prince songs
