The song has a really great beat, I can hear it as a club mix.
Psalm 89:2 has several variations, ....Love is like the sky you know it never stops....

Is probably based on this Psalm...I have also heard the passage, as, Your faithfulness is endless as the sky....
or King James..Thy steadfast love was established forever. thy faithfulness is firm as the heaven's.

man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

[disclaimer: I apologize in advance is this becomes a long post, I've done a bunch of them in the past 10 minutes]

When I first heard the album, this track was one of the "stand-out" tracks that I remembered enjoying from the get-go.
It was a combination of so many different things. It felt like it had a little old [30 something record scratches] and a little new mixed in [the techno-esque beat]... and the lyrics are catchy as cool

It's cool, though, chilli, for misplacing this gem. hug
Sometimes you just have to come back to an album after a period of separation to catch these things. Of course, some of the tracks I grew to love from 3121 was the result of prince.org discussions. The Word, I heard was supposedly really good, so I gave it another listen and lo & behold, I saw it for so many things.
The Dance was another I didn't quite get, but I got back to it and it's probably my favorite on the album. lol

omg wow, i really can do short replies falloff

The Jam of the Week acoustic version is even better. Cool guitar parts.

I 'love' both versions. In particular the breakdown on the CD version makes me feel like skating! I wish he would have released this as a single.

You too?! Prince is a fucking dummy for not releasing this hot jam of a song. That pisses me off that he ignored this song. mad

Now now, no need for name calling.

Come to think of it, I don't think what going through his mind when this album was finally released. He kept making all these appearances (which I happened to catch cool )... where he promoted Lolita, Satisfied and Get on the Boat... and actually, he's been promoting Fury & Te Amo Corazon as well... but for some reason, he neglected to release other songs as singles that were more spontaneous and are what make Prince... well, Prince.

The Word, The Dance and Love are three songs that he could have promoted as singles and done very well with. And I think "The Word" was perfect since it fit him so well as an artist.

While I do try to understand Prince's motives the best I can, sometimes his thought patterns still escape me. confuse

You will get lost in the sauce if you try to figure out what Prince is thinking. I just can't stand seeing so many unknown classics be ignored while songs that are good but not singles material get released and then go nowhere. Hell. even if a song like "Love" or if I were to go back to the 80's, "Housequake" had been released and bombed at least those songs were ginen a fighting chance. "Love" was too good to ignore and yet he ignored it like he always does with most of his hot songs. Doesn't stop "Love" from being hot but man, it would have been nice if someone here on the org would have heard the song on the radio.

Love was and still is (IMO) the stand-out track on 3121.
I love Tamar's co-lead vox with Prince. I love his tracks that feature female co-leads (instead of the traditional duet). The double layer of male and female voices seems to bring out the funk. Beautiful Ass, Chelsea Rogers, Lady Cab Driver, Take Me With U, Dig u Better Dead. Love Sign. Any others?

Speaking of which Michael Baisden played this in the background yesterday while talking to Cornell West about what he referred to as Youthquake. I kept thinking 'Y'all shut up already , damn, so I can hear my funky big Bro....
