Otherwise, I've got very little to go on cuz I haven't seen any performances in person. and I've only heard Purple Rain live a bunch of times at many differen occasions [HalfTime show will always be the greatest, as it was the first]... cuz the version on the album was taken from an performance at 1st Avenue had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong. Excusez-moi, but I think Purple Rain performed live in the last 10 years doesn't begin to match up against Prince's legendary performance in the movie itself or at 1st av! I personally can't stand the synthesizer/piano intro and the way he repetitively changes the key on " I never meant 2 cause u any sorrow "
It may be a staple in all of Prince's performances but most of the time it's lacking the passion he used to have while playing it ,but who can blame it after 20+ years.... Controversy , DMSR , anotherloverholeinyohead are incredible live and so are the wonderful acoustic sets. | |

Theres no drama or tension in the version he's been playing for the last 10-15 years. It's a little too Vegas for my liking. | |
