i think it was too do with prince wearing high heels, leggings and a safari print g-string more than anything else

what was he thinking - mind you Mick Jagger was known for wearing dresses occasionaly not quite so shocking as Prince's outfit would have been at the time
"C'mon y'all - let me hear you sing, c'mon y'all, shake, c'mon y'all, jump" - Yes Prince -
"London do you feel for me what I feel for you"- yes Prince -
"Can I play my guitar now?" - yes please

Oh honey, don't you know? It all came full circle in March 2004 when Mick Jagger was in the audience watching Prince receive his induction into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame. nod

I thought you would say It all came full circle in 2007 when Prince pelted Mick during his O2 gig (or something in that order)

did prince get the same reception from a crowd of black folks who came to see rick james?. prince didnt even have the live arsenal a year earlier and he basically outfunked the king of punk funk. opening acts rip shit all the time as the time used to kick his ass routinely in 82", there was an undercurrent of racism and homophobia during that gig. I dont care that they booed him, they came to see Mick and as a black Stones fan i know sure as hell why. But theres no arguing that the crowd was filled with alot of trash that felt the guitar and the genre was the birthright of whites. Remember, the stones were very versitile in their own right and they did a lot of country fusion stuff that attracted the sort of fan that WOULD call prince a faggot nigger.Whether they like it or not the Stones were adopted by groups like the Hells Angels who actually killed a brotha within 15 feet of the stage back in 69'.

Not really, just brings race into something that was barely an issue nearly 30 years ago. The Stones have a love & appreciation for "black music" that probably surpasses that of most people here.

Stones fans want to see The Stones, not a man (of any color) prancing about in bikini briefs & heels.

Such ignorance. The Stones had Ike and Tina Turner, BB King, Chuck Berry and Stevie Wonder open for them in the 70's. Let us be real the Stones fans of the 80's were a bunch of racist assholes and extremely rude. The Stones fans of 70's did not throw shit at the opening acts and appreciated the music.

The same booing went on when "Living Color" opened for the Stones in the 90's.

Racism exist get your head out of the fucking sand.

I completely agree 100% with viewaskew.
Someone above is completely ignorant and has their head in the sand, but it's not viewaskew...

I'm sure homophobia was the biggest part of it but there was probably some racism too. Just because The Rolling Stones themselves aren't racist, doesn't mean they can't have some racist fans. I've met some racist Rolling Stones fans before. I've also met some racist Prince fans too.
Andy is a four letter word.
