LondonSusan said: It's pure speculation but he really seemed to enjoy both playing the old hits (you know how he seemed to have been all "I don't do Purple Rain" - you didn't get the sense that he was reluctant to play the big mainstream tracks at all, on one night part way through PR he said "I love this song!") but also quite a lot of the newer material got a really good reception, both by the crowd but also in the press reviews. I didn't read a single bad or even lukewarm review, and of all the different people I've met who saw him at the O2 everyone was bowled over. It really feels like the summer put him back at the top of the list in the general english public's consciousness,,, I'm hoping (cos I'm an optimist!) that before he did the shows he was feeling kind of jaded + like he needed a break, but by the end of the concert run his enthusiasm was renewed + he changed his mind about taking a long break!!!! Hopefully that's the change he meant!!!!
That's sounds good, let's hope so!

P on bass, heaven! Is all I can say!

Not sure about *everything*, but that simple action and reaction changed a lot about pop music. Normally you go to a gig, and when they say 'we're going to play new material' everyone except the hardcore fans groans / goes to the bathroom / gets a drink. Prince went out on a limb. For the first time in history he gave away his new album free, challenging the music industry and making a statement about music and ownership. When the audience began to go wild for CR, a new track, it showed that he'd got it very right, and he'd won. IMHO he changed a lot about the way music is received last year, both in terms of distribution, audience reaction and audience expectation (how many other musicians work that hard to have such a fantastic live band?) I wish I'd seen the show with CR in! I'm looking out for a purple dolphin.

It was like the icing on the cake when he played it on 6 Sept, I didn't expect everyone else to go completely mad for it too though, so that proves your point!

Damn song was more or less my anthem at the time If it were not for insanity, I would be sane.

This was the first time he had played CR live and the audience was estatic, I remeber getting a version of it two days later, and you could hear the crowd going demented when he started CR off, however a second recording later came out where you dont hear the crowds reaction as much. He also claimed before the above statement that the o2 or indigo is his house now, or something to that effect.
I used the "the summer that changed everything" as my sig for quite a long time, as that is how i felt, and i am sure Prince felt the same way as well, he was the star of London during the summer, and i dont think he anticipated that and i think he fell in love with the whole thing, on the final night, especially the aftershow, you could see he was touched by it all. That's the day of the talked about version of The Beautiful Ones... Whenever I hear Sept 6th, that's what I think of... (I know, off subject... ) Yep Sep 6th was out of this world main show for Beautiful Ones and aftershow for the tunes and fun we all had

Ha, do you remember when he kind of struggled to put up the hood of his suit, and a few seconds later struggled to put it back down again? I was like, "Why?"
