"IF" PRINCE GOT HIS MASTERS BACK...

...We would hope that he would re-master them and re-release them. But would he dare censor them??? and would it be cool if he added and extra disk to each album with bonus material on?
What are your thoughts on this important subject? - - -

I would like him to release re-mastered albums as there are, then a special edition with more shit on it! like the Marvin Gayes re-masters!

Imagine a Purple Rain Special Edition!!! Wow!!! (Maybe he'll get his masters back in time for the 50th anniversary!)

I often wondered what he would do or how would he feel if he got his masters back. I would like 2 hear the albums unaltered but remastered. Maybe even add the extended versions of songs that were singles instead of the album versions.

so at the moment he has 'For you' and 'Prince'? next year he gets 'dirty mind' and so on?

is that how it works?

Something like the Miles Davis Columbia/Legacy remasters and box-sets is in order. Have you seen them? Amazing quality, with some serious attention and respect given to them.

I would definitely pay bucks for a six-CD set of the 1978-1981 years, remastered with all the released songs, out-takes and demos, complete with a 120-page book containing all the recording details, a retrospective view of the music and period pictures.

I guess I'll be dreaming for several years, though (probably until after he passes away, sadly). sad

Prince has said b4 that he plans on re-recording all of his albums once he gets the master recordings back from WB. Imagine how long that would take!

Actually he won't be getting the WB masters until 35 years from the release of each album.
For You in 2013, Prince in 2014, and so on. Prince's namesake was officially released from WB Records in late 1999 and free to record and release records from any co using the "Prince" name. Hence, Rave was "0+>", and TRC was "Prince".

Everybody wait a minute. Hold on..

I'm happy for P king and all that he is going to finally have rights to these master recordings. I'm not trying to be a smart ass, but that technically doesn't mean that AOL is giving up all of its rights to use the content. I've heard bits and pieces from both sides of this story and theres too much red tape and fine print (concerning the ever-changing legalities of music content) going on behind the scenes in matters such as this.

I thought he planned to re-record the albums BECAUSE he didn't own the original masters. The only way to own a master of his back catalog is to either wait the 35 years or create a new master.

Once he owns the original master, there would be no reason to re-record it.

I've never believed that he would actually re-record everything anyway. He can barely muster the attention span to realize a new idea that he has before a newer idea shoots him off in another direction. I don't think he could retain enough enthusiasm to go back and re-record his old stuff and I hope he never does. I'd hate to have to sit through a new version of "Jughead".
I've gone to find myself. If I should return before I get back, keep me here.

That would be a Happy Day for Prince. Kinda like at the End of Graffiti Bridge when he wins the Battle against Morris. Warners would make Prince happy. Prince shouldn't censor them. They are Perfect AS IS! Forget the Mumbo Jumbo Talk1 I won't buy it at all. I think Warners is Cool and I think Prince is Great and I think it's Time to get on with it and stop the COLD WAR! Let Artists Own Their MUSIC it's Only Fair!

Prince has ALREADY re-recorded his entire back catalogue.
He's said so himself. The final song to be re-recorded was
completed over a year ago.

I'm a little baffled by this. When did he say something like this actually? And do you think he adctually has had the time to complete the whole task. As far as I know he has only re-recorded "1999" and started on "Let's Pretend We're Married" after which he got bored and stopped right there.

So,did he "censor" these recordings and change the lyrics? I'd be interested in hearing the re-recorded versions of songs like "Sister" and "Head" smile

Seriously though...I will NOT buy any re-recorded albums and I doubt that Prince is serious about releasing them.I want the ORIGINAL albums to be re-mastered!

I agree with the above. He only has to do something very slight to the track to create a new master. i.e. with 1999 it was based on the original, but he went a bit far with that and fucked it up! Shame he didn't just re-master it fairly close to the original - without a fucking shite rap in the middle!!! I expect a remastered retrospective box set to be more likely. And maybe the more popular albums as re-issues (PR, SOTT etc).

I seem to recall something Prince said about the re-recording that suggested he doesn't even have to re-record
the entire song [as in each individual instrument, vocal track etc] but that he could take the entire song as it is
now on the original record and if he then drops out the bassline for instance and just records a new bass with the
same notes in the same key that would already qualify the
song to be a re-recording -constituting in a new master.

This sounds like such a waste of time, effort and talent. Not very cost-effective, but then we're not talking about one the most shrewd business minds in the record industry are we?
