Eels Cover IIWUG + ICNTTPOYM from S'O'T These tracks have been in circulation a while. But the Eels new 'Useless Trinkets' CD has live versions of If I Were Your Girlfriend (exceptionally good) and I Could Never Take The Place Of Your Man (mediocre). The CD notes from Me E read:
If I Were Your Girlfriend We played this at most shows in 1996 and 1997. It was one of those songs that was alway fun to play. A really unusual song from one of my favorite song writers.' I Could Never Take The Place Of Your Man Wow. Two covers from the same album. What are the odds? We weren't allowed to include this in the Town Hall concert film, but no one can stop you cueing it up on this CD and hitting play while watching said scene from the DVD on your TV. There it is, just like you were there. There some other good stuff and a live DVD. Or the greatest hits for the uninitiated.

i got this in the mail yesterday - i would recommend 'meet the eels' for anyone curious about the band or who would like a nice collection of their better known stuff. the videos are fun too.
the companion collection 'useless trinkets' isn't really winning my heart so far. i think all the odds and ends are great and i'm having fun digging through them, but i was less than plussed with their live cover of IIWYG, and i was bummed that the live DVD left out "i like birds" and their cover of peaches' "rock show". then again, i was AT that show, so i'm sure i'm just being picky...but it sure seems like they cut out some good moments from that set. i'm sure the wealth of b-side/rarity/remix tracks will make up for what is initially leaving a sour taste, cuz i do loves me some eels
