I often wonder about Bootsy Collins. I read a interview Bootsy gave about Prince back in 1982, and Bootsy had nothing but praise for Prince. Even before most of the rest of the world had caught on. But I've always wondered why we never heard a Prince/Bootsy production, particularly since Prince and George Clinton seem to have been so tight. WE WANT BOOTSY!

Another artist I've often WISHED had collaborated with Prince, but never often wondered about why it never happened, was Frank Zappa. Would love to have a double album or two from THAT pair! May Zappa be resting peacefully rose.

i dont agree
he makes fantastic stuff solo but his most innovative is his collaborations.

he has so many people under his belt even gwen stephani?? i think he feeds off other peoples talent that compliments his own. he must surley win the title greatest collaborator of all time.

I was actually at a George Clinton show and had a talk with a few of the members of P-Funk. They actually mentioned working at Paisley Park with Prince. I wonder how many musicians worked with him but the stuff remains unreleased, Like Kylie?

List: Bowie, Santana and forget Larry G! I would love to see P work with Sly but it ain't gonna happen!

I am always irritated that he forces his trademark thingie on young budding artists, often working with handsome young ladies that are just used as a sort of flagship for his fancy. I say Vanity, Apollonia, Carmen.

Because if he allows himself to be more than just slightly challenged musically (The Time/Sheila E/Jill Jones/The Family/Eric Leeds) then he creates his best music outside his own work. In most of thesecases he allowed himself to be inspired by these people; jamming with Morris, romancing with Jill and Sheila, brining us inspired music.

I even dare say that his colloborations with Eric Leeds were the best, pushing Prince out of his comfort zone (write sexy songs for barely legal chicks) and in that way creating some albums I like way more than most his other colloborations.

And after his work with/for Martika, Prince did not have a fruitful musical relationship anymore, except maybe some of his work for Mavis Staples second album (even though I have the feeling those again were leftovers from his own sessions pushed onto her) and his work with Tamar. But that one fell flat, obviously. And it was not as stand out as his prior work with/for others.

I think there are not many people that excite Prince these days, leaving time for him to fret about weird religious cults and thinking too hard about the freedom of internet and how people 'jack' his work.

I would love Prince to work with hot young artists, like Justice or even hot older artists, like Björk. It worked for Madonna. Of course, she is not as musically gifted, but at least she has a knack for picking the right producers to keep her sound fresh and updated, while Prince's monolitic view od 'outsiders' keeps him running around in the same old circles.

Even his 'experiments in music' are not exciting as they could be, because he does not allow people to lead him onto greener pastures.
He is, when it comes to re-inventing himself, out-rivaled by Meshell NdegéOcello, who seems to have inherited Prince's earlier variation of styles from before he started playing lame disco covers.

So. I find it strange Prince still thinks his way is the only way and I wish he would travel to Siberia on bike, fly Susan Rogers in and start recording in a shed on the prairie.

Call me nostalgic.

I would have liked to see a collab with James Brown-not an actual record but a stage performance-would have been interesting.

the answer is simple, he is setting the bar meaning for those who dont understand he is showing all these little petty artist that he does not need some other musician singing on his album for it to become a hit. i respect him for that keeps to the real factor in music "keepin it funky but classy" and that is why he is the god of music! may prince rain forever more pray

Prince isn't a "decent producer"? confused. I'm sorry, but I hate those kind of generic and illinformed statements. A producer couldn't bring anything to the table that he doesn't already know. Sure, working as a sideman or a session player for another artist might be interesting, but in terms of 'producing' what are they going to tell him? "Prince you need to use this beat because it's in line with what the kids are listening to right now" Oh, please...

Back to the question... I'm surprised he hasn't hooked up with Marcus Miller yet (one-time bass player for Miles and accomplished multinstrumentalist in his own right). I've always thought he would slot into one of Prince's bands like a glove.

nod
It seemed so natural for them to do something together.
I often felt that Prince was intimidated by established male artists...like he could be "in control" with females even if they were "established" (Patti Labelle, Chaka Khan).

Definitely a big shame.

I dont know why some people think he's collaborateed with so many people and to say there's nobody left.

There's is everbody left.

Prince has collaborated with many artists but only really artists that are mostly
either only known in certain circles and then a few big name artists that everyone knows like Madonna but really how much collaboration has really taken place with really big name artist, when you look at the amount of collaborations
amongst certtain big name artists with other big name artists eg ... Elton John
or Mick Jagger I mean I cant think of too many internationally acclaimd stars Prince has collaborated with and when you think of the possibilities it hasnt been much.
