But what allowed him the flexibility to do that???? The enourmous success of Purple Rain. An what allowed Purple Rain to be made....the success and crossover of 1999. i wouldn't say that it was due 2 the success of purple rain cause a lot people jumped ship after purple rain cause ATWIAD wasn't the sequel 2 purple rain or 1999. without ATWIAD there would have been no parade, no sott or lovesexy, it set the mold of u never know what u gonna get with the next release. i'll bite my tongue on that because if there was no ATWIAD we wouldn't have PE   damn prince  man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81 | |

I don't think you can really narrow it down to one, because both 1999 and Purple Rain were most important to make him a superstar, but then Sign O' The Times was necessary to make him a true artist. | |

SOTT allowed him to stretch with lovesexy, he had his certified genuis card but imagine lovesexy with no SOTT, he would have been trashed and dismissed. Remember UTCM was a sucky movie, The Movie SOTT basically positioned him as Micheals superior (Live) and the rightful heir to JB on stage. | |
