Prince in 2004: The Year in Review


This is a bit old now but it's pretty cool, it's a re-cap of 2004 from HouseQuake.com with info, pictures & even a couple links cool

Golden Globes Afterparty!


Prince shows up at the Golden Globes afterparty organised by InStyle and Warner Bros. On a borrowed guitar he jammed with the house band on "Brickhouse" and "Kiss". When a reporter asked him later what he was working on he answered "There will be a press release soon".


February 8th, 2004
Prince opens Grammy Awards show!


The 46th annual Grammy Awards show is opened by Prince. Together with Beyonce, who picked up five Grammy awards, he performs a medley of his hits. By the press it is seen as a beginning to celebrate the 20th anniversary of "Purple Rain".

RAD leaves the NPG


Keyboardplayer RAD performs for the last time with the New Power Generation. She played a total of 13 concerts (Full shows) with the band, starting at the Hong Kong Harbour Fest in October 2003.

Prince interview at Tavis Smiley show


The interview Prince gave to Tavis Smiley on February 12th is aired. The show closes with a great performance of "Reflection" by Prince an Wendy Melvoin. It was the first time since 1988 that Wendy and Prince shared the stage...

Press Conference


A press conference is held at the El Rey theatre in Los Angeles. Sitting on a high stool in the middle of the stage Prince announced the Musicology tour. Fans also got the opportunity to ask questions. After the announcements and questions the NPG joined Prince on stage to perform a short set.

Prince guests on Jay Leno show


Prince plays a great live version of "Musicology" and had a short interview afterwards. Mel Gibson was also a guest during the show because of his movie release: "The Passion of the Christ".

Ellen DeGeneres Show performance


Prince performed a very funky version of "Kiss". After doing an interview with Ellen, Prince performs "Nothing Compares 2 U" (With a great sax solo from Candy Dulfer), a medley containing "A Love Bizarre" & "Glamorous Life", and "I Feel for You". "Bambi" was edited out of the broadcast.

"Today" host Matt Lauer talked to "The Artist": The moves, the sounds and oh yeah, the color purple -- add it all up and you have the musical genius of Prince. Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction!


Prince is inducted in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the first year he was eligible. The induction speech was held by Alicia Keys and Outkast. "There are many kings," Alicia Keys said, "but there is only one Prince." Dressed in white Prince performed three of his biggest hits: "Let's Go Crazy," "Sign '' the Times" and "Kiss". During the all star finale Prince joined Tom Petty & Jeff Lynne to play a great guitar solo on George Harrison's "While My Guitar Gently Weeps".

Musicology Tour starts!


Prince opens the Musicology Tour at Los Angeles' Staples Center. The show is broadcasted live in 32 cinemas all over the USA. Concert and cinema goers recieve a copy of his new, not yet released "Musicology" album. The concert recieves very good reviews in the press. Musicology Album Release Party!


Prince resurrects "back in the day" feelings through such songs as the love ditty "Call My Name," party jam "Life O' the Party" and the erotic, tongue-in-cheek bluesy number "On the Couch". A party took place in Webster Hall NYC, where Prince performed an acoustic set, and various songs like "Musicology" & "Dear Mr. Man".

"Hammering! That's the word. That's it!" Prince folds over in laughter and stamps his high-heel boots on the floor. Those heels, as it happens, are clear plastic, and lights twinkle within them. Prince interview on Japanese TV


The popular music variety show "Hey! Hey! Hey! Music Champ" is featuring Prince this month. Today there was a very short but exclusive interview, in which he described the concept of "Musicology" and his feelings toward his fans in Japan. He also mentioned that he'll be coming back to perform in Japan after the U.S. tour is over.

Today on BET (Black Entertainment Television), was the world premiere of "Call My Name" video from "Musicology".

Essence Music Festival performance


A remarkable show at the 10th Essence Music Festival. The show started off with Prince in disguise (wig, beard, hat) on inline skates as relatively unknown performers danced or sang around him. Later on, during Prince's regular show, The Time, Wendy and Sheila E. joined him onstage.

Purple Rain DVD release


The 20th anniversary edition of "Purple Rain" is released on DVD in the USA. The bonus material includes interviews with members of the Revolution and the film crew. A recording of the party premiere in 1984 is also included. The movies "Under the Cherry Moon" and "Graffiti Bridge" are released too, but those DVDs don't have much extras. Fans outside the USA have to wait until October for the release.

The show (out of 92 in total) in San Jose, CA at the HP Pavillion is the last one of the massive Musicology Tour.

Minnesota Music Awards


Prince wins 6 Minnesota Music Awards, among which the award for song of the year ("Musicology") and Artist/Group of the year. The ceremony was held in St. Cloud, MN for the first time. Prince didn't show up.

Cinnamon Girl video released


It's a chilling statement from a musician better known for talking sexy: Prince's video for the song "Cinnamon Girl" depicts an Arab-American girl detonating herself in a crowded airport terminal on what looks like U.S. soil. Featuring Keisha Castle-Hughes from the movie "Whale Rider," the four-minute clip opens in a stylized urban schoolyard, rendered in pen-and-ink and stylized gray watercolors drawn by artist Greg Ruth.

Billboard Digital Award


Prince wins the Billboard Award for "Best Use of Technology by an Artist". "We were excited to learn that we won as we strive to offer Prince fans new ways to connect with him through the use of innovative technologies," said Sam Jennings, director of online services and Web master at NPG. Entriq, Inc. provided the technology to make the Musicology album available to NPG Music Club members.

Funkmaster of the Year


GQ magazine chooses Prince as one of the men of the year. Prince gets the title "Funkmaster of the Year". In the magazine they wrote: "Prince's 2004 performance in Madison Square Garden was so good you had to hold onto something -- your seat, maybe, or the person next to you -- to keep yourself together."

Prince Nominated for 5 Grammy Awards.


He is in the race for "Best Male Pop Vocal Performance", "Best Male R&B Vocal Performance", "Best Traditional R&B Vocal Performance", "Best R&B Song" and "Best R&B Album". The winners will be announced on February 13th, 2005 at the ceremony that takes place at the Los Angeles' Staples Center.



I wish they would do a re-cap review 4 every year of Prince's amazing career...sigh

Yeah I totally second that, Especially as a U.K fan where other than the album release we had nothing from him.

The Bambi on Ellen news is hilarious!!! lol I would have loved to have seen that!!!
