Does not compute.

Have any orgers ever found it hard to find other people who liked to listen to Prince's music as much as they did, I mean befor the org. I remember when people used to asked me which artist I liked the most, when I would tell them Prince the responce was mostly always negative and I always asked them how could you not enjoy his music, have you ever seriously listened to it . Most likely they was just haters anyways.
I'm just a junky for the sound.

When I bring a mix to work, or wherever, so that people who want to can hear that Prince isn't really about the top 40 hits that everybody remembers, they can't relate at all. They only get excited when they hear Little Red Corvette, or Raspberry Beret.
It's frustrating. People are ignorant. They don't even wanna hear his music. They wanna hear W.B.'s music.

Me! Really,I can't tell you. No guy I know wants to listen or just wants to Imitate like I Care. One guy last week asked me if my house was still Purple Inside. Everybody Laughs at Me. They can't even Open their Minds and Listen to his Music. They are in Shock if I play them something cause they think he Retired after PURPLE RAIN. I always play them and everybody I know his music. When they hear it they Love it. My Child is getting into Prince now.

I had a friend over the other night, and I had the Vault playing in the background. When The Lights Go Down, came on and my friend immediately started asking who it was. He was blown away when I said it was Prince. I keep tellin people, Prince got the joints, but they just don't wanna know.

That album is very commercial, yet really good all the way through. I'm making my friend a Prince cd this week to make him more of a fan than the "Greatest Hits" and he's gonna be in for a surprise. Prince's image has overshadowed his music for far too long, and it's his own fault.

DMSR, I'm doing the exact same thing for my friend that was over the other night. What are you putting on your cd, because I was overwhelmed trying to decide. My friend plays bass, slap bass. So,I was tryinta throw in some of P's songs with phat basslines, also some of the slick stuff, like Joy in Repetition, The Other Side of the Pillow, ack, I don't know. I just know I'm gonna redo the cd over and over, adding stuff.

I was driving my cousin to work and she asked me
to play a slow song.I asked who did she want to hear
and she said by "anybody".

I then asked "how 'bout an old Prince song"
and she quickly said no and the expression
on her face was a mixed emotion of disgust and nervousness.

I put in a Stevie Wonder CD instead, though I was somewhat
bothered by her reaction.I then told her that Prince was
my favorite musician, just to let her know how I felt. She
said that was cool. Her reaction still bothers me though.

It's sad when you can't share your love for Prince's music
with people who are close to you.sad

I find that most people only like Prince for 'Purple Rain' and the stuff that came before it.When I tell people I dig Prince, they usually say something like "Oh,I liked his earlier stuff, back when he was funky".How many times have you heard someone say that?

I honestly believe nearly everyone is a Prince fan - I've met too many that are just in the closet about it. They're not up on everything, but when it's playing they dig it...

I donĀ“t mind people not liking Prince, only sometimes it bothers me. Only when they start bitching about him. Just imagine that P is as commercial as Britney, I would hate that.

Most people hate 80% of all music. And they hate everything that is against their own very narrow tastes. This is not a problem just amongst Prince fans but a recent topic at every internet community. It has very little to do with Prince being "a disgusting pervert" figure.
I don't know how many times I've told some girl on a date or something that I listen to jazz. And they're like "Oh, I don't like JAZZ". Well...goodbye.

Let 'em go back to their Creed records or whatever.

I don't mind if someone isn't truly into Prince because they don't like what they've heard from him in a while, but it's the bandwagon fans who only know of 1999/Purple Rain/"Kiss", the ones that are only into recording artists for their most popular work and have no interest in it if it's not hyped by the machine that bothers me. They're not serious music fans anyway. They're fickle, casual fans who want to be in on the latest big thing - regardless of whether it's good or not. Serious music fans seek out music that isn't force-fed to them by way of video and mainstream radio airplay. Casual fans do not.

GET... THEM ... OUT.

I'm not saying Prince hadn't musically alienated some folks for a while during the 1990s, because he did. But to act like his career began with the 1999 album and ended after "Kiss" had its run on the charts shows an ignorance and bandwagon mentality.
This post not for the wimp contingent. All whiny wusses avert your eyes.

My best friend introduced me 2 Prince's albums, songs that I haven't heard on the radio. But this was back in the 80s. He was a big fan of the Revolution material. When they broke up he wasn't diggin' his music anymore execpt 4 Sign O' the Times. A few years later I ran in2 a few people that were in2 Prince's music but not quite the way I was.
But I believe DavidEye and CalhounSq right. I've ran in2 many of the same types of people. They all dig the Purple Rain era. Even my parents, my mother bought the single When Doves Cry before I even thought about buying anything and my father loved that song and Purple Rain itself.

Same situation, virtually for me. A buddy of mine won't entertain the thought of voluntarily listening to P unless the Revolution is involved. Then, I'll sneak in cd-by-cd of yearly progressing P (all the way through TRC) and he digs it, asking who it is. That's when my funniest smirky-smile comes out. nod

It's a shame how many victims of the machine there are out there. They only want exposure to what the industry dictates is the latest, greatest, coolest music. Even Lenny Kravitz and India.Arie can attest to this.

I've had the same reaction--'ewww, prince? he's weird.'
That's why we love him right?
Anyway, a way to circumvent this problem is by making a mix of songs from associated artists: Tevin's Shhh/Paris 1798430, Yeveeta Steele's Open Book, Madonna's Lovesong, the NPG, the Time, Sheila, Madhouse, a couple P instrumentals, shit no one i know thinks 'Peach' is a Prince song, etc. People always go, who's that?...and i can tell they like it. Then after i tell them they go 'oh, it's okay." Hypocrits. nuts

It's good to know what you all think, for a second I thought I was the only one who could'nt find many followers of his music. I've always gotten teased for answering the question of who's music I listen to feeling that it was always a personal question but that's when I was much younger. Kid's did know of him but were'nt into him.
Yall gotta excuse me sometimes my spellings bad. " I must have that desiese what's it called?" "It's called stupid". Ha! Ha! That's what happens when you get old.
