Oh yeah, a lot of folks here on the org look back at the Lovesexy tour as being the best of all his tours. And who can argue? Prince and his "Counter-Revolution" put on such an amazing show and blew us away with every tune. It seemed like they worked really hard to put on a spectacular show like that, but it totally paid off.

My mother saw his show in NYC in the fall of '88. She had the option of seeing either him or MJ, who happened to be in town the same night. Being the bigger Prince fan, she chose our purple hero and was amazed herself. She came back home with the tour programme. You should've seen the look on my 6-year old eyes. Kinda like this emoticon here: omg

I was too young to go sad but I did catch the live in Holland show on VHS years later. Still as good today as it was 20 years ago. big grin

This is the one tour I am sorry to have missed. But it was an election year and I just couldn't get away to a show in August. sad

The VHS release is of the Dortmund concert, not Frankfurt... unless you maent you went to the Frantfurt one and have the Dortmund one on VHS... don't mean to be pedantic, but there you are...

...it's still the finest piece of Prince on tape that exists...

yep - thats ecaxtly what I meant - have been 2 frankfurt and have de dortmund-show on dvd ....

I remember the first time I saw this on TV all those years ago... WOW!! I saw it again recently - it's one of my many tearful "I wish I had been there" Prince moments (unlike my many IndigO2 2007 visits which are my "OMG I'm so glad I WAS there" Prince moments!! lol )

"so carefree" - curious, because I thought this was Prince at his most forthright. The sincerity, or what I took for sincerity, bowled me over. This concert is one of the most powerful pieces of performance I've seen... yet, I've come to realise that that's exactly what it was: performance. As Prince has flipped and flopped through his trends over the years, what I mistook for honesty appears more and more to have been no more than showmanship. Which is a pity.

BoySimon - I find your comments interesting, because I've had similar thoughts in the past. I could never understand why he changes his mind about things so much, especially when at the time he seems so certain about his thoughts. So you think it's all 'performance' and 'showmanship', and you don't think he is sincere? He always appears sincere at the time. Maybe it's because he is exposed to many different ideas over time, and has an open enough mind to be able to change his opinion.

Maybe you're right, aliuk1, perhaps Prince's life-journey exposed him to ideas he was unaware of at the time and they have had a greater impact on him than the beliefs he held in '88... I do think that there is a great deal of showmanship in Prince's performance, obviously, and this "spiritual-certainty" is one aspect of this. The annoying part is that 'faith' is such a precious commodity, in many people's eyes, and to have it paraded and then trodden on so often, so publically, is a little disconcerting. It sort of draws me to the conclusion that either Prince is having us all on, or he is indescribably easily led.

I saw the Lovesexy Tour in Oakland,CA on November 11,1988 and it was truly the most amazing, most satisfying concert I ever attended. It MOVED me like no other performance.

I saw P twice on this tour out here in L.A. at the Sports Arena. Oddly, I couldn't get into either show. It was an excellent performance, don't get me wrong. It just didn't click with me. At that stage, I was so used to seeing P more than once on his tours that I saw him twice. I had seen him so many times live before Lovesexy that I sed to think that had something to do with it. Overall, although I liked the "wildness" that P evoked, I couldn't connect with the pacing of the show. But I've never been a fan of the Lovesexy album either. So that had a lot to do with it.

He was so young vivid and carefree, it seems like yeasterday when lovesexy was new,Those were the days! Just think the days of mayte were yet to come, it just got better until Diamonds & Pearls.

Prince is the Best!

Nobody close to him or like him he's different in a way that I Identify with.
Passionate,Intelligent and Sensitive Perfect recipe to be an Artist.

Well Bowie is close to him but not like him.....
I'd say Prince has Bowies Creativity and Jaggers Energy and Hendrix talent...

Still he manages to be original.
