It is quite clear to me that Prince wanted to project a strong message with the title track of Planet Earth.

Does anyone think he was successful in this?

I feel the message got lost in all the frenzy surrounding the album give away.

Quite possibly caused by himself.

Did we care for the water and the fragile atmosphere?

The best I felt I could do to support the message was to change all my lights to low energy lights and put a thing in my toilet to reduce water consumption

Which ones would you need the most and which ones would you lose?

Yep, the free giveaway created a lot of controversy. Perhaps his message didn't get lost. I saw Planet Earth CDs being sold at a Whole Foods in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

prince seems 2 have the ability 2 think ahead of himself/others, although environment issues have been realised 4 yrs.
the song questions humanity.
if everyone thought & behaved in he same way then the earth stands a better chance of survival? so the religious message is there.

when i first heard this song, the lyrics tht stood out were 'Did we care for the water and the fragile atmosphere?' tht alone should have impact on anyone tht gives a damn, & provides food 4 thought.
it's a cool song. i like it & feel the album was marketed well

I believe that Prince was successful in delivering the message of His concern for the planet.

When that understanding reaches everyone, I do not know, but one hundred years from now when someone pulls "Planet Earth" off of the shelf....They will learn that Prince was a talented musician, that cared for the Earth.

if you think about water, let me bring something to your attention, when you brush your teeth, you let a tap flow, for what reason no one knows, but imagine the fact we all do this, how many litres of water go down the drain for no purpose at all?

I think this song is amazing, especially live. It was a highlight of the concerts I went to in London.

He didn't play nearly enough from Planet Earth.

if the album was supposed to convey a strong message about the dire
state of the planet he would have done better to include more songs
about social awareness instead of treading water with songs about a
"little spanisch man" offering wine and moet.

the only track that deals with the theme is the title track and the
title track i'm sorry to say is completely ruined by that bridge he
lifted out of "could it be magic", which is so apparant n horrible,
it makes it one out of only 3 songs in his entire catalogue of over
600 songs that i just can't listen to, and that says a lot, lol.

planet earth: uneven, clouded, unfocussed, rushed and repetitive it
has some great ideas but on the whole it feels like a demo, and not
in the good way Dirty Mind feels like a demo.

Totally agree - when I got the album (free at the O2, sorry) I was a bit trepidatious that it was gonna be very preachy about the environmental stuff. I was pleasantly suprised that it wasn't, the title track being the only one that even references it briefly.

The title track is no different than most of Prince's message songs. No different, no stronger than stuff like "The Love We Make."

The ridiculous cover alone probably scared people off from buying it.
