The Variety of Planet Earth

I dig Planet Earth, but what I think one big problem is, is that the album is too varied. The songs fit together but yet they don't. There are teasers of this style and that style, but it's too little to make it work perfectly. Doing all kinds of genres is Prince's thing, but usually the different songs work in better harmony with each other. SOTT is a good example. PE would perhaps have needed twice as many songs to make it a strong album.
Now it kind of sounds as if Planet Earth and Lion of Judah have been lifted from one album, Guitar and The 1 U Wanna... from another, Chelsea and Mr Goodnight from yet another... And somehow they work against instead of complementing each other.

I wouldn't mind an entire album with the sound of Planet Earth and Lion of Judah. IMHO, they've got that raw Hendrix vibe. If he would have been alive today they would have collaborated on those smile

I must have the alternative 'Rawless non-Hendrix Vibe-free' mix.

Sometimes, I just appreciate, however, I would agree, that maybe 4 more songs would tie the record together better....I've never really paid to much attention to that because, I can skip from one emotion to another without much complaining about laughing and crying inside of a second.

Hey! I got that one, too! mad
We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.
