I could kiss that fine ass purple mutherf***er for making such a cut! Agreed, tho the ONLY thing I dont like are the chipmunk voices. Other than that... I totally disagree...the voices in the background are vintage Prince(and PFunk for that matter). And that background voice came about long before the 'chipmunk' sound ever came out(as i vomit). And Erotic City is probably the song that got me hooked on Prince way back in '84. I was a fan of 1999(the album) but PRain and ECity sealed the deal. I remember clearly when this was first released. Since late 81, I used to call up record stores asking them when was the new P release scheduled. Be it his new single or be it The Time or V6 new album or single, whatever. I STAYED on top of P new releases from 81 easily through 85. I knew a good two weeks before something by him was coming out. So on that day of the release, I would go down and get it. It got to the point that the folks at the store new me so well that they would sell me a copy the day BEFORE it was officially to go on sale cuz they had just got it in their inventory and they simply hadn't put it out on the sales floor yet. That happened a few times. It happened with the Purple Rain album. I was able to get a copy a day before they put it out on the floor cuz they received their shipment the night before. So I called up asking Darrin, the store manager, if it had come in. This was around 6 that evening. He said that yeah, the boxes were in. He would hold me one. So I broke my neck and went down to Tower Records on Sunset, (that's where I had been going since I was 5 years old) and he had the cashiers ring me up one. But he put it in a brown paper bag so the other customers wouldn't know I was getting it a day early. True story. SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."

Anyway....I knew that Let's Go Crazy was coming out on a certain day so on that day I went and got the 45. Didn't even play the A side. I first played the b-side, like I always did on a P single at that time. Cuz I knew the b-side wasn't going to be on the album. Erotic City was bangin'. I later learned that year that P was inspired to write this song on the night after a saw George Clinton and the P-Funk All Stars in L.A. SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. This is easily one of my favorite songs ever! The 12 inch is to DIE for! Love it Love it Love it! I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

don't understand why it was b-side at all.
it's in my top ten Favs, an especially suitable & original dance track for clubs. hasn't aged a day.

Is Sheila E. singing on that cut with PRINCE or Lisa? I always thought it was Lisa. But, it sounds like Sheila E. I like the female's vocals on it.

I later learned that year that P was inspired to write this song on the night after a saw George Clinton and the P-Funk All Stars in L.A. Lol, fantastic, reminds me so much of when I grew up. The funniest story I can remember was the release of Lovesexy. It was to be released on a Monday, and seen as my Grandmother, who i lived with at the time, was in Dublin (The capital and most likely to have it before my local rcord store further south), I asked her to get it for me. However, on the Sunday before release, a nieghbour of mine shoved a newspaper in my letter box, and I saw the cover, i thought, oh christ, Prince was not very popular in my house, but if they see this i am doomed. Anyway, I managed to find a phone and made up some excuse, that my grandmother would not buy the album and on the Monday, went with a friend to Cork (another city in ireland), taken there by than none less than one of my schoolteahers who lived there. However, to our dismay, there was a delay in the shipment of the album, and we went home empty handed. Better still my grandmother did not notice that I had been in Cork. On the following days, I was constantly at the local record store, but there was no sign of lovesexy arriving, so another adventure started and another friend & i went to another city, hitching lifts to get there, and finally we got our hands on it. oddly the only song I had not heard off the album at that stage was positivity, which turned out to be the last song on the album, so once again i had to wait. Explaining to people the methods behind our madness, in car journeys was hilarious, especially skipping school on our final yrs. One evening, about a week later, the owner of the local record store called to my house, and handed me a cd version of Alphabet street and apologized that lovesexy was not in the store fast enough. Ah does were the dayz If it were not for insanity, I would be sane.

Did an instrumental of this ever exist?
Or was I just thinking of the long-drawn out instrumental segment on the Lovesexy tour?
