my open letter to van hunt regarding prince

first of all i am a van hunt fan and i dissaprove prince's fans bashing van hunt.
but van hunt said some realy stupid things regarding prince.
he said that prince never wanted to be a great songwriter and that princes main goes was to be popular.

prince as a songwritter, beside writing songs for himself wrote songs also for :ray charles, miles davies, kenny rogers, celine dion, madonna, bangles, chaka khan and many many others.

so van hunt you wrote songs for how many and what artists???
prince wrote songs that majority of the music consumers dont even know that prince wrote it .some of it songs become evergreens like "nothing compares 2 u"
what evergreens did you wrote van hunt???

beside being amazing songwritter that wrote songs sucessfuly in various music genres between those things he had a time to become a music revolutionar.
prince did some avantgarde stuff regarding music that nobody did before him like being the first ever black artist to recors a song without bass line.

as i heard in your music you did nothing grounbreaking in your music van hunt,i could categorize your music as standardly produced retro soul music.
van hunt also said that prince wanted primarly to be popular.
of course prince wanted to be popular every artist wants to be popular and their music to be heard no matter how much they don't want to admit that fact.
but prince's main goal wasn't that.
prince was the king of music scene when he released purple rain.
he was one og the rare artist (beside faran sinatra and elvis) to have number one movie, album and hit single at the same time.
so what prince did?
insted of going safe pop music path he released a big fuck you to all "around the music in a day".
do you know how easily prince could pull off another purple rain???

and what bothered me the most van hunt said that he skip prince's guitar solos.
why does van hunt skip prince's solos on guitar.
is it because prince plays guitar so good that van hunt cant stand it because van hunt is played guitar 10 times worse then a lenny kravitz clone???
or because van hunt think prince dont play good./.

van hunt is 31 old bitter neo soul artist.
at 31 prince had already done most of his classic work.
where is van hunt at 31 in the world music?

he is in the basemeant of some indie records music store.
so van hunt if i were you i would be happy as a puppy and i'll piss in my pants just to be mentiond in the same sentence as prince.

Whats wrong with Van Hunt having his own opinion, he didn't come on here and say all that. Can't really see why the uproar. Thats what he thinks fair enough, I disagree too but I'm not going to hate Van Hunt because I think differently to him! This is getting silly.

Thanks for that.

I thought he made quite a few valid points.

Okay it got personal in the last paragraph, but the rest before was very comprehensive and well explained.

Am I missing the main issue? This thread seems way too harsh areaction if thats all it is.

Do I need to know more about him or his music?
His not the most well known of artists in the UK.

Why don't you post on the price.org thread that is discussing this matter already?

http://prince.org/msg/8/2...ince-Forum

If you desperately want to argue your case to Van Hunt, but in public, why not post on his blog where he stated these things?

(BTW if you want to know why Van Hunt says he skips Prince's guitar solos, just read the reason he gives in the original blog. It can look really dumb posting an open letter to an artist in response to comments, by asking a question he's already answered in his comments.)

Prince today is better than Van Hunt will ever be...

and Prince has slipped...

When he was on top, well, we seen the top.
Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

as of this moment van hunt is a better songwriter and his songs say a lot more about love and the human condition. "precious"frankly is better than anything on musicology (yes that means reflection), 3121 and PE. but as it was stated earlier prince by 31 was a confirmed genuis, mastering genre bending innovation in pop singles. he also proved to be a prolific songwriter and his "zone"was longer and more fruitful than any modern genuis can speak of. So in that context Van Hunt is simply put a supplement to prince, Like DÁngelo and Andre 3000, no shame in that. The real thing (prince) is no longer producing naturally and as fluid as he did in his youth and at 50 that's OK too.

Maybe Van Hunt would be better recieved had he come along sooner, like around 88-89'.

Lord have mercy, who cares what some artist has said about Prince? They can say whatever they want to. If his comments upset you enough to write an open letter, then you would have really been having a heart attack back in the Rick James days.
