During the Dirty Mind/Controversy era Prince was quoted as sarcastically referring to the American's preference for a candidate like Ronald Reagan because he has "balls" and is aggressive. Some music journalists took Prince's quote out of context. Prince responded years later in the song Paisley Park where he states, "Whoever said Elephants are stronger than mules?"

He did once give money to a Minnesota Republican but this was based on a local zoning/tax issue affecting Paisley Park studios.

I would say that Prince does not align himself with any political party but considers his views outside politics. He has had some anti-Bush and anti-Reagan references in some of his social songs though.

He seems to lean democrat, no?
But he also doesn't vote...so that is kind of canceled out.
He's apolitical then, I guess.

I believe one time, years ago, he gave a $2000 donation to Rudy Boschwitz, a Minesotan Republican Senator.

That's all I've heard of his political affiliations.

Hey, cool post. I like it when people here know their stuff and don´t post bullshit. Wasn´t there also a Paisley Park concert in the 90s to support a Democrat ?
I think that Prince is some sort of hippy at the bottom of his heart, with all the Joni influence and him growing up in the 60s, in a very special social climate in Minnesota at that time but there were also a couple of incidents that made you think he´s very much of a flag waving Republican, like those awards in the 90s where some people showed disrespect to the American flag and he was pretty pissed. Also, some of his songs are anti-war anthems , like Partyup, and some of his songs sound like they could be written by GW Bush ( Free, and America, to name a few). Must be part of his dual, Gemini personality. His views seem to change every now and then, which is not necessarily a bad thing.

Hmmm .... what did he say? Politics are just 'semantics', and he's more interested in spiritual matters - something like that.... confused Oh, and most people just want the best for their families and everyday lives (Tavis Smiley - 2004)

Prince is a man, that would not agree with a specific political label...knowing, very well, The intricate weave within idea's on any subject.

I believe Prince's sincerity when He says, "We should champion, our diversity."

I don't think he's intelligent enough to be involved in politics. His lyrics are often bland & naive when they deal with it, rarely getting into specifics.

Why is everything out of your mouth so negative? Is your life that horrible? How u post is a direct view into your unfiltered mind without anyone knowing anything else about you. What u present to the world here is very ugly.

On ONA Live, he said just the opposite...

Oh, we should champion our diversity. Huh. We should champion our similarities - not our differences. We should meet on a higher level - instead of looking at white, black, rich and poor, young, old. Differences, differences - diversity. Let's meet somewhere higher.

I always thought the song AMERICA was kinda anti-American & was being sarcastic like when in the song DAYS O' WILD when P says "God bless america land of the brave" its a poke at the US system of thought n government.

The song FREE was more spiritual than political... basically I dont agree with anything U said biggrin
