Which Prince album has the best b-sides?

Which of Prince's albums do you believe had the best flip sides? So many of his B-sides are bonafide classics.

It's REALLY tough for me to decide. The 1-2 punch of "How Come U Don't Call Me Anymore" and "Irresistible Bitch" are great, as are the triumvirate of B-sides from "Around the World in a Day."

For me, it's a toss-up between "Purple Rain" and "Batman." Both contain 4 KILLER B-sides. If I had to choose, I would probably go with "Purple Rain." "Erotic City," "17 Days," "God" and "Another Lonely Christmas" are all phenomenal.

What about you?

Without a doubt. Best b-sides and remixes. If not just for She's Always In My Hair and the extended America. The UK Paisley Park remix is slammin' too.

Second would be Purple Rain. The classic extended version of Let's Go Crazy and the unreleased 17 Days almost put this first.

Honorable mention goes to SOTT for the fantastic 12" La La La, He He Hee.
If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

Lovesexy was no slouch either.
There was the great I Wish U Heaven extended version.
Scarlet Pussy.
Escape.
Alphabet Street instrumental.
etc.

Those were the days.

TRON

I love all of his b-sides but probably Around the World in a Day. Something about the extended remixes and full length b-sides really does it for me.

Here's a quick recap on the various albums b-sides
(not including remixes...unless they're so radically different that they qualify as new songs)

Controversy:
> Gotta Stop (Messin' About)

1999:
> How Come U Don't Call Me Anymore
> Horny Toad
> Irresistible Bitch

Purple Rain:
> 17 Days
> Erotic City
> God
> Another Lonely Christmas

Around The World In A Day:
> She's Always In My Hair
> Hello
> Girl

Parade:
> heart Or $
> Alexa De Paris

Sign O' The Times:
> La,La,La,He,He,Hee
> Shockadelica

Lovesexy:
> Escape
> Scarlet Pussy

Batman:
> 200 Balloons
> Feel U Up
> I Love U In Me
> Sex

Diamonds And Pearls:
> Horny Pony
> Violet The Organ Grinder
> Do Your Dance
> Call The Law

The Gold Experience:
> Rock 'n' Roll Is Alive!

Personally I'd have to go with Purple Rain
can't argue with that kinda quality.

I have to go with Purple Rain because it has his top ten best song ever, 17 Days. That song is so perfect. It is like eating the creamy part of an oreo cookie...its like the last bite of a piece of cake..its like a fresh off the conveyor belt Kirspy kreme glaze donut..its like the afterglow of an orgasm..its like when you look at the clock at work and its 5 minutes to quitting time...its like crab dipped in butter..its like the small of a womans back..its like the collar bone on a woman..its like switching radio staions in the car and you flip it to a station and one of your favorite songs starts to play from the very beginning...I heard that he has an official long version ot it and thats my holy grail next to the long version of Computer Bkue...but actually, its perfect the legnth that it is...any mor e would ruin it. It leaves you craving for more. Thats a good thing.

Another Lonely Xmas--man..what a song. Cant say enough about this one...so badass that I even play it in summer...

Erotic City--oh shit. He stole from White Horse and made an anthem.

ATWIAD has another best -Shes Always...rock riff classic...1999 had Irresistable Bitch, another of his top 15 best...so much to choose from...

I think he lost it for me after the Parade album... his SOTT b-sides seemed forced to me and uninspired. So I guess after my rambling I have to pick the Purple Rain b-sides.

Violett is vintage Prince--the song (the delivery , especially when he talks about the stockings and insincere..and the he goes "oh boy!!"..and when he talks about "pumped, and I pumped..) and the video. He looks like he did on the Irresistable Bitch 12 inch cover.

I'd have to vote for the b-sides of around the world in a day. You can't beat She's Always in my Hair and Girl. Hello ain't no slouch either.

Purple Rain's b sides are good too, but I'd have to put Sign of the Times in 2nd. La la la he he hee (10 minute version is essential funk) and Shockadelica (love the crazed guitar sound mixed with my Camille funk) are two of his best songs ever.

Then Purple Rain would come in third- I'm not really a huge fan of "God"- instrumental or vocal version. Another Lonely Christmas is a great song, but not a favorite. Erotic City is still great, and 17 Days is good but not a favorite.

Purple Myth has it that Prince went and watched a George Clinton show and was so inspired by the funk that he went home and wrote Erotic City. Pffft.I think White Horse was sucha hit and off the wall that Prince maybe unconsciously if not consciously ripping the song off. Listen to the beginning "Iiii"'s Prince lays down. Sounds just like the vocal in White Horse, and they both have the same "sound"? There's that hi keyboard sound in both of them. Its like Prince took the song and just changed the key or melody etc. Play them back to back and they sound like sisters or cousins.

It's a pity that (bar Rock n Roll Is Alive) he stopped doing them after Diamonds And Pearls.

Prince B sides were always special. My vote would probably go to ATWIAD. Great B-sides, great 12" versions, and just remember, around this time he recorded all those great songs with the family...Mutiny, High Fashion, and of course Nothing Compares 2 U. A golden period for him.

I guess the reason he doesn't do them anymore (bar the fact he doesn't release singles) is that he no longer produces 10-12 song albums.

By the time he has filled up a CD (normally around 16 tracks), there are probably few songs from the sessions left over to warrant a B side release. I know a lot of people will argue this (fair enough given the P is probably the most prolific artist of the last 2 decades adn song shortages will never be a problem for him), but it's no fluke that the lack of b-sides coincides with the CD revolution in the early 90's.

Rubbish. When Prince releases cd singles nowadays there is nothing stopping him putting a cool unreleased track on there - if anything it will boost sales! If he doesn't care about charts anymore then it would make sense to make the single the best it can be (no length restrictions) - for instance 'The work pt.1' single should have had on it The work pt.2 (even if it doesn't exist he should have made it!!! 'Come On' single with the One remix, should also have had Onesong and U're Still The One. Woulda been cool, no?
I could go on - Rather than endless shitty remixes of the same track, I think we would all prefer different songs.
