It's so hard to pick 3 from 300+! Just before Xmas by boyfriend asked me what my favourite P song was and I had to give him a list! (he turned up with a 12 inch picture disk of SOTT, nice). So I told him...
SOTT - because the lyrics are so strong but not preachy, and still so powerful and relevant 20 years later. I love his voice at that tone too, very sexy and kind of heartbreaking at points. You can play this song to anyone who doesn't know Prince and they'll instantly like it, it's not a grower like some of his others! Plus who can not love 'we'll call it Nate, if it's a boy..'?! The Question of U - the first time I heard this when I was like 14 or something the whole sound of the introduction just took my breath away, then the short but incredible lyrics. It's impossible to do anything while this song is on - if I'm washing the dishes I have to stop and just really listen to it, and I've had this reaction every single time and still have it today. I heard it live (no lyrics) at the O2 and nearly collapsed! The One - unlike my other 2 picks this is a recent add because I never heard this song until last September at an O2 show and I had to go home and find it straight away. (sorry folks I did not own NPS until September!). The live performance was literally breath taking and whenever I hear the recorded version now I can picture him performing it. Again I love the tone of his voice in this song, the beautiful music, most of the lyrics "If you're looking for a man who will make you feel that time has just begun, a man that'll make you feel like you're the only thing that ever mattered underneath the sun" - fabulous. I'm not entirely keen on the implication that a woman must be looking for a man to pay her bills, but then this is a recurring theme with the purple one and I just hope he meets a chick with her own money to teach him a few things sooner or later! Hope that's enough detail for you Hamster! Love loads of other people's picks as well obviously, most of them would be in my top 10!
