PRINCE would have been much better if he had an all male band!

Prince could have been much more succesful if he had an all male band back in the 80's till now!

Think Led Zepplin.....

think the Police....

if he wouldnt have had all the bitchin and complain women do(i.e. lisa & wendy)
he could have had more time 2 write good music!

I'm being real here people....wendy was no Dez in the playing department.....

sheila e is technically good but musicians know she dont have the power to pound the drums like michael b

even candy dulfler aint no Maceo or najee!

Rhonda ain't no sonny T

Kat dyson ain't no Miko weaver

Imago

I think the reason why Prince avoided having an all male band is that if you put him on stage with other women, he doesn't look quite as small.

Plus he actually looks masculine compared to other women, with Kat being the exception of course.

Prince has also had a few non-Americans in his band.
Though highly accomplished musicians, the non-Americans tend to water down the funk a bit. You really need good, skilled, black, male, Americans to pull of an excellent Prince band. They also could stand to benefit from an Jewish Asian accountant.

Prince just doesn't have good business sense. shrug

I remember back in the day, Prince made a comment along the lines of how he admired Robert Palmer for having an all female band.

Women have contributed to Prince's sound. Where ever there was a female in the band, she added her own persona to it.

As for Sheila and Rhonda, I view them in their own light with their own talents, and if comparisons or contrasts are made, it's done not because of their gender, but as musicians.

In addition, I saw Sheila play with Prince live, and she is a top-class drummer in my books. In the 80's, her solos where what increased my respect for the role drummer's have in bands.

well, Purple Rain which is his most successful commercial album had 2 female musicians (Wendy and Lisa), not to mention Sheila joining live.

not only did Wendy and Lisa contribute to the actual sound, but were also credited with the development/writing of songs, most notably Purple Rain.

so, in terms of commercial success and the releases that people loved, women were always a part.

*W & L also wrote Mountains, which is a beautiful song ...

for what it's worth, Mountains reached no.23 on the US charts; this would be an achievement even in 2008. i do not understand how it killed his career biggrin . instead, it demonstrates how positively women have contributed to Prince's sound.

WOMEN ROCK!!!!!

It's all about dynamics. Sometimes a women just fit's better than a man.

I put many of Prince's successes down to surrounding himself with strong, talented, SEXY WOMEN.
