A model, she used to be a role model,
as in reffering to Chelsea Rodgers.

I think he's saying before fashion models, the word might have more referred to a role model in life, when applied to a person.

I think he just had his head up his ass when he wrote that lyric...

Kind of like some of the stuff in the title track for Chaos & Disorder, not quite as clear a comparison as a more reasonable person might craft.

man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

Maybe he's thinking of the girls called "Super Models"..... even Linda Evangelista was quoted and admited to saying "I won't get out of bed for less than $10,000.00 a day". So much for role models.....

He was saying that Chelsea Rogers used to be a role model, but now she's just another one of his Ho's.

Why do I have the feeling that this song is full of double meaning? While we think that he's talking about the literal model, Chelsea, he's also weaving quite another different angle to the song with a different person. Because this song doesn't quite fit, or seemingly, because of the contradictions.

Idano, shrug Maybe it's just me...

I thought he was saying that the WORD "model" used to mean "role model;" now when you hear that word, it means a person who models clothing for a living...

hmmm

As in, "this person is a model for you to follow."

Does that make any sense?

Well, then you're both missing the point because it also used to mean a model train set.

so then, perhaps the point is that the word "model" didn't mean what it does now at all?

prince sings, 'a model. used 2 b a role model'..then he states 'i don't know'
well how we supposed 2 know!
i think he means she was a role model to other models, but it's confused people cuz she was unknown till association with p..not like she was a super model or anything neutral

Who gives a damn, really?

The song is boring & pedestrian. Up against Cindy C, especially.
