Anyone think that him becoming a JW may of helped this?? Or just old age creeping up on him??!?!

Damn this thread has made me miss hearing about Prince being Prince....Totally Original, and not selling out!

Twinkly1

The natural progression of life is change & refinement.

If Prince had never changed he would not have developed into the Artist we all love(d) in the first place.

The acquisition of knowledge is not boring it is growth. Besides, you have to admit that our entire society has changed since the 80s and 90s--it's a sign of the times.

For example, the whole music give-away thing exhibits an extreme understanding of "how things work" in the Industry and knowing that, he was able to determine for himself how to distribute/promote/realise profit for his artistry--it's a more refined protest than changing your name to a symbol (not better, just more grown up).

thumbs up!

i hardly think 50 is old age but every 50 yr old i know gets much more selective in what they do i.e. dumping the things that don't satisfy and waste time - it is a very liberating time in many respects - plus you cannot go around at 50 doing what you did at 20-30 as it would be frankly ridiculous and you cannot expect artists to stay in a time warp - that is just too boring in itself.

IMHO i think Prince will surprise you all given his energy and creativity - roll on. biggrin
"C'mon y'all - let me hear you sing, c'mon y'all, shake, c'mon y'all, jump" - Yes Prince -
"London do you feel for me what I feel for you"- yes Prince -
"Can I play my guitar now?" - yes please

Exactly. It's called getting older smile. Your energy levels gradually go down, you can become a little set in your ways and start bashing the next generation(s). Prince as a human being is not immune to these things. As fans of his, we can expect too much, and our minds/ values may well not always be where his are at at any given time, partlicularly as most of us are somewhat younger than him and aren't privy to his personal thoughts, desires, intentions etc. Imo, from what we know of the private man, he has always had a fairly conservative personality in areas other than music/ fashion etc, and his latterday JW thing is imo another example of this.

I'm pretty cool with all this as long he produces music that is at least interesting, creative and not just repeating old glories. His last few releases have imo been very mixed in this regard, but P is one artist one should never write off as 'never gonna surprise you again'. He dropped TRC out of a clear blue sky, following a fairly weak period musically for him, so who knows?

well b4 the attacks on youtube couldn't u have seen multiple per4mances there 2 satisfy their fill?

That stuff is still out there. You just gotta be willing to look for it. People managed before youtube. I seriously doubt that people aren't going to become Prince fans because he doesn't want stuff on youtube.

so if it's still out there, what's the sense of screaming out 2 hear it then? eek it's not gonna b different from the billion versions out there unless he just starts singing "i never meant.." then goes right in2 the solo.
man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

I don't know what I would've said, because I was 12 then. Maybe I would've said that Prince didn't want to play the older material 'cause of problems with his record label.

no it was because prince was "dead" nod oh the good ole days cloud9
