GOLD EXPERIENCE/PLANET EARTH

See how the orgers have all got a belated crush on The Gold Experience (despite being not overly well-received at the time)?

You'll be doing the same with Planet Earth in 10 years time...

Why? Overall opinions of Graffiti Bridge, Rave, New Power Soul, and Emancipation haven't changed in all this time.

Rave's not that bad, especially if you include in2 as well.

I've always seen Planet Earth the same as I do Chocolate Invasion and Slaughterhouse!

Not a bad collection of songs, but not exactly a completed album.

A work in progress maybe!

I highly doubt it. PE will never get regular play. The songs are just WEAK!.

lol lol That seems to be the way all Prince albums go. I didn't appreciate Parade. SOTT and Lovesexy till 1999. If it can happen with these albums, it'll happen with the last 3 and all the other albums for other people. nod

I´m not too fond of the album versions of the songs on TGE ( live, they´re all killer but the studio versions don´t hit as hard) BUT, as far as I can recall, TGE got glowing reviews, especially in magazines like VIBE, which was still cool back then.

Gold Experience has some serious hard funk and an unique sound.I love this album. Always loved. Too bad ´Days of Wild´, ´Interactive´ and ´The ride´ werent there.

Planet Earth has some nice moments, but it´s very bland and predictable. Sorry, but for me PE will be like Rave in 10 years...

I like "The Gold Experience" better but I don't understand why Planet Earth gets ragged on so much here. "Somewhere Here On Earth" is one of my fave Prince songs ever love. and to me, PE is better than 3121 and a million times better than that gawd awful "Musicology" ill,

In ten years I won't even bother trying to find my copy of Planet Earth. In fact, where the hell did I put that piece of yak shit...

In ten years I will be happily downloading a remastered loss-less copy of The Gold Experience to the Apple iMicrochip in my neck.

Now thats an interesting comparison.
I consider Rave a far weaker album than PE (even the 'in2' vers.)

You're not the first person to say they think DoW & Interactive should be on TGE. But he left Interactive off 'cos he thought it didn't work having that AND Endorphinemachine on the same album. And he left DoW off after (unbelievably) giving a listening party to music critics who unanimously said they thought that track didn't fit. I actually think he was right to leave both of those off.

Any way, lets see if you're all still hatin' in 10... wink

Personally, I enjoy them both. I LOVE The Gold Experience but I don't rag on Planet Earth at all. I'm with Cinnamon234 in that "Somewhere Here on Earth" is now one of my favorite Prince songs ever and one of the few Prince songs that actually speaks to me personally. disbelief 3121 is more funkier than anything on planet earth and even tho i have a special place in my heart 4 SHOE, NOTHING on planet earth is funky no no no! even musicology had more funk on it that planet earth..y do u think people went crazy when f.u.n.k. came out?

It's amazing, BC.

Not only do you know how all the Orgers feel about TGE now, you know how all of them felt about it when it dropped 13 years ago.

To quote Peter Griffin: "Wow . . . you are some kind of sorcerer."

The Gold Experience isn´t perfect. Although it has many really great tracks, it also has "Pussy Control" and "We March". I also would have preferred a shorter version of "TMBGITW" on it.
