Prince Autograph.

This signed photo of Prince is being sold on Ebay for about $120.

Sounds a bit over priced to me.

Has anyone been fortunate enough to get his autograph in person?

Was there any conversation?

I sometimes think what I would say if I were in a position to ask him for his autograph.

I’d probably give him my email, and tell him if he was to pass through Southampton, England, to drop me a line and I could make the spare bed up for him.

The hotels in Southampton are rubbish!!! lol

Back in 1988 a friend of mine won a contest from a radio station to see a
Prince show in MPLS and a party at Paisley Park....
When he was at the Party he found himself a few feet away from Princey himself.
He some how got the guts and leaned over and said "Prince, my friend Lisa who lives near Chicago is a huge fan and she would like me to say HI and could you sign something for her"..
Well my friend said Prince just walked away...
My friend was pretty steaming that he would be SO rude
He said about 15 min. later Prince walked up and handed him a peice of
paper and said "Give this to her from me"...
My friends jaw hit the ground..
It was a peice of Paisley Park Letter Head.. and on it
it says "LOVE GOD 88" Prince..
And it still hangs framed on my wall... smile
I was offered $300 bucks for it about 5 years ago.. but I am NOT ready to
part with it.... Probably never will be. smile

I've seen Prince's signature have a larger P before, however, it looks authentic.
They have been showing, people's personal collections on, "The History Channel." today. I thought about Prince and His things.

I have an autographed copy of the Dirty Mind LP that I got off eBay. It came with a COA, for what they're worth. Looks like it's legit from what I can tell, but it's really easy to fake a signature, so who knows.

One of my coworkers used to live in Minneapolis in the early to mid 80s, and he went out to clubs around time of 1999, before Prince was a household name. He said it was pretty common for Prince to sign autographs for people back then.

He also told me that one of Prince's bodygaurds approached his girlfriend and told her Prince wanted to dance with her. She had no clue who he was and thought he was weird, but my friend convinced her to dance with him. This guy's not one to BS and has no reason to, so I think his story is legit. He's promised to give me his copy of 1999 signed by Dez Dickerson once he cleans the boxes out of his attic.

It's a bit off topic, but I just thought I'd share.

At the beginning of August '88 Myself and my sister (Doemebaby69) got to go to a private meeting with Prince along with the Controversy fanzine. We were not actually with them but on a seperate guestlist (that's another story).

As we had a couple of days notice we speculated on what to take to get signed to which I stupidly took all my albums, and the concert ticket, programme, flyers, postcards etc. STUPID!!!

When I got my turn to meet and talk to Prince I did pour all my albums out in front of him to the shock of everyone (and looking back to even the shock of myself - but I was 16 and he is my Iodol so you do irrational things, No?).

Prince said "I got a surprise for you!!" and scribbled P's over all my albums, some looking like infant scribble!!! He did sign the Lovesexy album fully LOVE GOD P88 though!.

I actually wiped most of the Ps off the albums as they ruined the covers!!

As we were there for well over an hour, there were many opportunities to keep visiting for more questions and autographs and by the end had a fully signed ticket, programme, postcard, SOTT heart shaped badge and Lovesexy flyer!!!!

Not bad I suppose, but looking back ..... What a fool!

If there's one thing I could do differently it would be that!!!! 0+>

I was a bit of a collector and always tried to keep everything looking Mint!!!

I suppose my obsession was greater than the fact that it was even Prince who was defacing them!!!!

I bought an "autographed" copy of the 2004 Rolling Stone cover on eBay for $40. I am almost positive the signature is not his, because it's pretty wildly known he doesn't sign stuff any more. And if he did, I doubt you could buy a signed item for $40.

But if it's a forgery of his signature, it is an EXACT forgery done in original black Sharpie. And the seller - not an autograph dealer, BTW - had sold thousands of items with a near-100% positive rating.

So as far as my daughter is concerned, we have Prince's autograph hanging in our game room!

Yeah, he smiled and laughed!!! At me as much as the situation I'm sure.

Prince was really great all the way through the meeting. Nothing at all like what you read about him at the time.

He wasn't shy but was very reserved. He didn't go out of his way to make conversation but did answer questions and made eye contact with people.

He even did funny things like one guy put down a £20 to sign and Prince drew a moustache on the Queen.

Even on his way out I asked to shake his hand which he did, and then lots of hands flew over his and my shoulders, he joked "Oh no, Hands!" and then did his best to shake as many as he could (about 20) before leaving!"

A true star!!!!!

sounds like an amazing meeting pity about wiping the P's off but we live and learn smile

dunno if i would risk buying an autograph off ebay but then i have never understood the attraction of them i would much rather spend the money on a concert ticket confused

Hi! True story. I was there too! I only took my Lovesexy album, Sign O The Times white/silver/purple heart shaped badge and something else which I just found downstairs in a box actually which is the Prince Lovesexy flyer (it's about A5 size) featuring pics of album covers from 10 other albums from Prince For You to Sign O The Times. Anyway, he signed my Lovesexy album with a non-permanent black marker and as my brother says, easily wipe offable, so when I got home I stuck some sticky plastic over the top of it. My brother has this album now I think! When it came to the signing of the badge I handed it to him and said "would you sign this please". He was sitting at a table and I stood right next to him! He took the badge in his leather gloved hand and asked where I'd like it signed so I indicated to him at the back. He signed it Love God P88 (which is the same as he'd signed the Lovesexy Album and flyer) and then handed it back. I said "thank you very much" and he replied "you're welcome". Wow. He SPOKE to me! Ha Ha! Then the hand shaking but he did have black leather gloves on so never actually touched his skin but did manage to touch his hand at the 1st September Indigo2 aftershow and it's as soft as a baby's bottom! So I've lost the badge over the years, my brother has my signed Lovesexy album, but I do still have the flyer! By the way Love God is in inverted commas. If somebody could let me know how to put stuff up on here then I'll try to scan it and post it for you to see.

I can confirm that he looked a bit rough that day actually! He was wearing a red paisley long tunic and matching trousers and BIG HAIR. It was during the Lovesexy tour at Wembley in 1988 so his hair was long but one thing which hit me about his hair on the day we met him was that it had huge uncombed curls in it - like it had just been taken out of rollers but not brushed out! He had no make-up on and his teeth looked like they needed brushing. Oh I sound like I'm dissing him but not at all! He really did look like he'd slept with his hair in rollers, rolled out of bed, put on the nearest outfit, and just had time to take his rollers out before walking out of the door. Honest!

This is probably alittle off topic, but worth a mention i thought, A few yrs ago a dutch girl that worked with me realised that i was a prince fan, she then told me this story of when she was in america going to one of the musicology shows, and after the show she was invited backstage, I think she managed this as Candy Dulfer is also dutch, anyway, she got to chat with all the band and they signed her Musicology CD, all except Prince, who kept his distance but waved and said hello.

Here are the scans of the CD

If it were not for insanity, I would be sane.
