thinking of buying this album next to add to my collection!! wondered what it is like is it funky??? n are they good songs on it??

I like it but it took some getting use to. My favorite song is 'Come on' and 'wasted kisses' at the end.

if u take the songs one bit a time it's not bad but as a whole collection it's not as good as exodus

YES! Make sure you add this gem to your Prince collection. It is a wonderful and funky album. It's produced well, the songs jam and there are some real classic Prince jewels on it.

Zsasz brought up one...."When U Love Somebody" is a perfect example of PRINCE creating an incredible pop song. And towards the end of the song, it morphs into a rock and electric jam.

Other gems on the record are..."The ONE", "Come On", Wasted Kisses", "Freaks on This Side" and the title track "New Power Soul".

When the album cam out back in '98 it was THE perfect summer album to turn up loud in the car as you drive!

And on the "lot of people hate this album" issue...it's funny because I remember when NPS came out. I was in all the lines waiting to get tickets for all Prince shows that whole year in LA and I can remember almost all the Prince fans raving and jamming the album that year.

But seriously, if it wasn´t for a few stinkers ( Push It Up and I Like Funky Music) this album would be loved by more people.Those songs really leave a bad taste but there are a lot of strong songs on it ( The One, Wasted Kisses, When U Love Somebody, Come On).

4 one thing it's "Newpower Soul" not "New Power Soul".

I think it's a brilliant album along with Chaka Khan's "Come 2 My House" and Graham Centrals Station's "GCS 2000" (the 3 of 'em were recorded at the same time and packaged as a "trilogy" called the "Newpower Pack.")

Newpower Soul is a very "black" album, it's not pop or rock but pure funk and nu soul. There r amazing grooves on it, the arrangements r very complex and subtle (the horn ones in particular) and it also has great lyrics. It's a great "party album."

You can never go wrong, having it.

Damn, some of you would happily scoop up and add Princes last bowel-movement to you collection if you could get hold of it - and you'd insist it smelt of roses and positivity...

Just cos it comes from him doesn't always mean it's pure brilliance.

The One, Come On and Wasted Kisses (AKA Tema Oculto) are all worthy additions to the Prince legacy - beyond that, the rest is just stinky everyday shit. A snooze-fest of tired, uninspired, mundane, rubbish-funk blandness...

Crap like that has really hindered his career and his standing in the music community. You gotta know when NOT to release rubbish...

I only got this cd in September and it has become one of my favourites.

The majority of the album is really funky, with the mellow Come On and The One shinning through

You'll love it

Get this album. It 'll add some new power to your soul.

The track The One is one of his best songs ever.
