Prince: THE CHILD Okay, with all the talk of male/female going on, I'll bring up something which I've always thought to be a key to his personality. He's like a big child in so many ways, this is a compliment. He is very in touch with the playful sense of wonder and joy.

I'd like to hear more about his upbringing Maybe we can go to the movies and cry together

Well, he had a somewhat troubled childhood, possible physical abuse, divorced parents, mean stepfathers. He was kicked out of home after home in his teens and settled into a basement of a friend's. Has always claimed music was his escape from all the chaos. Whatever happened, he never lost a private sense of childhood which he has shared so generously with us.

Prince definatley still has a childish side.
I'm just thankfull he never built himself a Neverland type place, like MJ. I would have dropped him like a brick if he done something like that.

Well, I've read in a book his dad wasn't cool with P fucking girls in his house, so he kicked him out and he moved with that guy who ended up forming Champagne or Grand Central with him (I Think)...but I'd like to hear what kind of kid he was, how he learned to play and all that kinda stuff. I also heard that "Sister" was based in reality Maybe we can go to the movies and cry together

So many of his tastes strike me as childish too, his cooks have said he never wanted anything to eat other than stuff like mac and cheese, and he's always had stuff like doritos around and cap n' crunch is his favorite cereal. I mean how many grown folks still eat cap n' crunch regularly? He's just a big kid and that's one of his lovable traits.

Why does it have to be mainly a kid's cereal? How many adults eat frosted flakes? I'd be safe to say a LOT. An adult with a sweet tooth doesn't mean he's acting like a kid. I know you didn't mean anything negative about but I don't think a cereal means you're a kid How many adults eat danishes and donuts in the morning with coffee? That's a TON more sugar than capn'crunch

He taught himself to play piano when he was 7. The first thing he taught himself was the Batman theme!

I would have kicked him out, too for that. Did he ever move back home or was that the end of it?

We all go to the Father, as children...And it is true, If you don't carry the innocent love of a child within you, It makes the beauty that is hidden in the world harder to see. "The Lion Sleeps Tonight...

That is Happy and Wonderful, because, as children we are allowed to express ourselves more freely, but as we grow older we are told we have to say things a certain way, or that something can't be said. And a child is very attuned to the Spiritual and Metaphysical realms of Existence. Which is Happy, Wonderful and important at any age. Those who are able to still be in touch with our so called "Child-self" are probably the most fortunate. And i think its makes people Better Parents and Teachers.

Why??? I'd wait till he fucked up, like got a chick pregs or something, THEN kicked him out....jeez, was his dad anti-sexual or something??? Not cool, Francis L. Maybe we can go to the movies and cry together

He spent 2 hours crying in the phone box after asking his Dad to forgive him (for whatever it was) but his Dad didn't let him go back

There was an article by one of his elementary school teacher that said Prince was quiet and very polite. He was of course very small with big beautiful eyes. Joni Mitchell said she remembers Prince coming to see her when he was 10 or so and the thing she remembers most was his eyes.
I think his getting kicked out of his dad's house was the lowest part of his childhood. I'm sure it was a turning point for him and I'm glad he had music as a comforting friend/outlet.

I mean, if I had a young son, I wouldn't want that IN MY HOUSE. He can make sure I'm not home or take it somewhere else. But not around me. Oh god, I sound like an old woman. *starts crying*

I definitely think he has a childish side and it's not good. It's called temper tantrums. Very childish indeed 2010: Healing the Wounds of the Past.... http://prince.org/msg/8/325740
