It sounds like it would have been lifted off the Emancipation -sessions to me. Nice song nevertheless, only if there weren't those god-awful lyrics...

"Why U screamin´? U know I'm not a Man "O" War?" You're not what?!? A boat?

You ain't right at all!!

I love the song, its a new R&B tune and thats why I guess ya'll didn't felt 4 it. The guitar solo is a KILLER!!!

I just don't understand it. Some people are programmed to believe that if a album isn't that good, then every song on it, must stink!

That is sooo not the case. And ManOWar is proof of that.

The song is down right beautiful...just like 'Eye Hate U'; I'm sure we can 'all' relate to what he's sayin in the song...We've all been there...

I expected ManOwar to be played on the R&B stations, it never got there...

That sux!

Real music is extinct!!!

Blue Prince
Times...times <---yeah tell me about it disbelief

I'm glad u like Man O War, but I can't stand the song. I have tried and tried and tried and tried to like it, but I can't get with it. I do like the Rave album. It has some good moments. Though the album wasn't his greatest, it was a good album.

Well...I respect that. Some individuals (I'm sayin no names)just listen to the first 30 secs of a song, says that it sux, and never gives it another chance...

atleast you gave it a chance...I've been in a similiar position. Sometimes the songs you never think you like, tend to grow on you.

Aaron just recently made a version of the album with the extended versions and better remixes to replace some of the weaker album tracks. I should do the same cuz I might finally come up with a version of the album that I like. smile

No hmmp now! You know what I mean. I'm not happy with un2 or in2 as they are. Combining the best of both makes an album that I like all the way through. As is, I think there are several weak tracks on each.

I'm just trying to show that we all have different understand. I certainly understand loving "Adore," "Pink Cashmere" and "Nothing Compares 2 U" as much as most people do. They are fantastic. I just wish people would return the favor and accept my love of "Rave." biggrin

I accept it. I just don't fully understand it. I think what people respond to on that album other than the production is that the passion present in his best work seems to be missing. I understand that he was trying to make an upbeat "joyful" album so I take it at face value.

This would be my ideal version of "Rave"

Rave- remix
Undisputed- remix
TGRES- extended w/ Eve
Hot Wit U- normal
Tangerine- extended
So Far, So Pleased
The Sun, Moon and Stars
Baby Knows- extended
I Love U, But I Don't Trust U Anymore
Man O War- remix
Beautiful Strange
Strange But True
Wherever U Go, Whatever U Do
Prettyman- extended

I like a lot of the songs just fine, but it loses out for the same reason that "The Vault" does. It just doesn't contain many of my very favorites.

It just reminds me of your complaint about "Diamonds and Pearls"- how everyone LOVED it when it came out, but it seems to be the trendy thing to loathe it. I feel the same way about "Rave." I rememeber the great excitement on the .org soon after the release. The response was mostly positive. Now, however, people have seemed to back down and accepted the mass opinion.

I LOVE "Rave" and I'm sticking to it.

I remember the opinions being split down the middle. But yes, Rave's stock has gone down since its release. So has the feeling towards the NPGMC downloads. People were majorly hyped every month for the new releases but no one's talking about those songs now. I think part of the problem is that Prince didn't really seem behind the songs on Rave or High. He just sorta put them out there and he let the Rave album die. And hardly performed the songs live at all. I think the commercial edge to his 99/00 output would've worked well with his "Hit N Run" concept. Oh well, he's on to bigger and better things now.

I really dig man of war. I used it as an alarm clock for a few months. I was on about a woman so I was in depressed mode at the time.
