Yes he does. He discuseed this in an interview a while back with Ebony magazine and he said on the Jay Leno show that his concerts will be family friendly. but I don't understand these kids in their early teens digging Prince, I mean what did they do see him on American idol and just start liking him? confused

What Prince fails to understand is that the young people who are getting into him now are doing it for the same reasons their parents' generation did. Prince (used to be) a risk taker; someone who wasn't afraid to nudge at the boundaries and push peoples' buttons. A so-called family-friendly show does a disservice not only to the older, loyal fanbase who've shown infinite patience in putting up with his shenanigans, but to the Princelings stepping up now to hear the man. There's a lot of incredible, brilliant music in his catalogue that the young'uns will never get the opportunity to hear live. Who does he think he's saving? Who does he think he's protecting by refusing to play certain songs? A kid at a Prince show has already heard it all at home, and is there because they're dying to hear it played live.

I've been a fan since I was 14, and I'm heading on up to my 23rd birthday soon. I've yet to be allowed by Her Highness the opportunity to see a show, and when (if) it does happen, I already know most of my favourite tunes will not be on the setlist. Bummer.
You older guys had it all so easy. Good music was still easily accesible in the '80's. Becoming a Prince fan was, for me, a lot of fucking hard work. The Musicology comeback (and face it, that's exactly what it was) was still 5 years off, and I ended up having to wade through what albums I was able to find by myself. If it weren't for the internet -especially services like Youtube and Napster and the old video forum on Housequake (yes, Prince, you twat. That was a dig at you and your suing ass) I don't know if I'd have been able to keep at it. More likely than not I would've given up and glued myself to Hanson or something. shrug

Maybe he's saving and protecting himself? True, he can't do much about the music that's already been released to cyberspace, but he can decide not to reinforce it. If he feels that he needs to do so to be at peace with his spirit, then so be it. I don't have to agree with it, but then I'm not the one who has to live with the repercussions of his actions.

Just curious -- who is Her Highness and if you're 22 years old, what does she have to do with you attending a concert?
I've gone to find myself. If I should return before I get back, keep me here.

most teens who are really passionate about music:

a) like Prince

b) don't really follow American Idol

- a passionate teen

Well, we've all done things that were not proud of. But being spiritual does't mean you gotta live your life in a box somewhere. Being spiritual can be that your are a free spirited person, that you believe in god or you know actually who your creator is.

What does that have to do with Prince being spiritual is NOTHING!(Made no sence to me IMHO) whofarted

He STILL does it today(yes he does!), he is being a hyprocite of his own religion/beleifs/ and spirituallity. You dont think he isnt using the woman/women today he discovering making his music like Tamar, The Twinz., etc.

IF he did beleive in JW/ or his creator I still DONT see his creator sueing the pants off of a young mother and her baby for dancing to his tunes on a short you tube video(this was this past year). HOW IS THAT BEING SPIRITUAL??? Being spiritual of him he would of turn the other way and let it slide but NO! He did not choose that he and his lawyers(prince was the one who gave permission for the papers to be filed) to follow suit on this poor woman.

I think your arguement is moot here.

As a JW myself, I find that "letting things slide" is generally the best policy around for a peaceful life... am waiting to see what Prince is up to with all this stuff; he can be a pretty surprising person. In any case, it's clear that his mind is different from most people on a lot of subjects!

Saving and protecting himself from what, exactly?

Her Highness? That'd be Prince, ma'am. smile

I think this is a good time for me to jump in. I've been into Prince and an org lurker since I was 12. I'm a month away from 17 now, and I find these age debates interesting. My family and close friends know, but I feel like I'm a closet Prince fan that is just now stepping out.

Most of the time, I don't tell people that I like listening to Prince because I get the "oooh omg I love Purple Rain" or "who, that gay dude?!" Too much ignorance to deal with from people that only listen to whatever is on the Billboard Top 100 at the moment.

I remember always hearing older Prince songs on the radio and loving them, never knowing who this guy was. It wasn't until I saw him perform on TV (I think it might've been the Art of Musicology special?) that I began building my collection. Since I had a ton of iTunes Giftcards, and no interesting music to waste it on, I spent all of it on Prince music, starting with some of the gems from the hits compilations, and working my way up to some of the more recent mainstream releases. Contrary to popular belief of the "old folks" on this thread, I wasn't only exposed to the last 3 albums. Most of my favorites are from earlier releases.

The only thing that sucks about being a younger admirer is that I have no access to any bootlegs and older concert footage, and I have never had the opportunity to see him live! Personally, I don't care if he censors his music now or changes the content a bit, or about his personal life...as long as the music is funky, I'm there.

And to answer the original question: Who know's what Prince is ever thinking?!

(Sorry for being so long-winded, I've been holding it in for a few years)
Kinda strange, kinda awesome.
