Of course he realises he has a young fan base also. That's why he makes rediculous sellout songs like "Incense and Candles" and "Mr. Goodnight". Andy is a four letter word.

I still think his fan base for young people is about 10 percent or less. A better question would be, "Does Prince know how many gay fans he has?". I would place that percentile at least in the 40 percent range.

I'm sure Prince is aware he has a new lot of young fans but some of the young kids prolly think Michael Jackson is a girl, my cousin seen a picture of Michael Jackson and thought he was a girl. Prince can sing like a girl but IMO most people know he is a guy.

Instead of Incense and Candles, Prince should relesae a remake of something gays would like. Ignoring them is stupid as they've built his career up far beyond anything Bette Middler could have dreamed for.

I'm not sure about the other teens, but...I'm the reason my cousin sorta likes Prince. He's 14. He heard me listening to Glam Slam a few times and got hooked without noticing it. Despite what he thinks of the man's appearance, he digs his sound to a certain degree. I highly doubt that these teens just like him for the American Idol thing, though. It's word of mouth. It's youtube. It's the kids who aren't interested in the usual musical garbage that listen to him. Curiosity is a virus to a teenager.

Whitnail said: I was actually amazed at the amount of teens at the concerts in London, whether they actually got what was going on is another matter. I saw mixed reactions, some clearly loved it, and others were bored out of their minds. I have a feeling the 21 nights at the O2 became abit of "in" thing to go to during the summer, for some people.
I guess another side of Prince that appeals to young people, is his willingness to be a rebel, every decade has seen him go against the norms one way or another. he has never lost his ability to shock people, even his very own hardcore fans. very true cause this hardcore fan was bored out of my mind when hearing that setlist in london and man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

I wonder that too. You and I , honey--we totally think alike. It's like we're twins or something. Anyways, seeing the Prince of the 80's would have blown these kid's minds. Seeing him now is like showing up to a cranky old Professor who likes to preach to you about what you're doing wrong in your life, albeit a funky one. the same can b said 4 those of us that didn't get 2 c james brown in his prime. i'm always envious of my mom who got 2 c james in the 60's and 70's then the james brown of the late 90's up 2 his death. b4 the internet became such a worldwide phenom, it was such a blast 2 run 2 the music store and grab that 12" remix and flip it over 2 c what b side name was given ..it's not the same 4 these young people 2day tho man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

I stole my mother's Musicology CD since she only listened to it once (in '04), when I was fourteen and didn't really have anything new to listen to. I liked it, so I went on the internet and found out as much as I could about him, and started asking for his music. It turns out now, that I know more about Prince than my parents do.

Just because you see somebody on TV a couplel of times and look at these old 20 year old pictures of him we post doesn't make you a fan, I lthink LOYALTY makes you a fan and that comes over the years with some hard knocks to go along with it. These kids have so much Attention deficit disorder that they can't even stay on topic in a forum, they're certainly not gonna stick around and take Prince's crap, like we 'true funk soldiers' have thru the years!
It was affordable, very much appreciated even by the older fans I think with families and bills to pay!! I don't think you can claim to only be a fan if you've been there for the long haul, if some youngsters have recently 'discovered' him I think that's great for everyone!
