LOVE this song. One of the one that makes me want to slap him for giving away such an awesome track to a protege. Definitely the best track on this album. It's almost if that album was put together as filler JUST to get one out there with A Love Bizarre on it.

sounds like "Sex Shooter Part 2" to me
not that it's a bad thing cuz it's made better by the instrumentation
and the creepiness of the vocal effect

i just wanna know who was the lyricist on this album anyway disbelief
not to mention the producer -- so many annoying distractions in the mix
the continual clicking on "Romance 1600" and the random cymbal noises on "Bedtime Story"

Clearly, the best song of Emancipation. I wish all the album had had that modern R&B production, and not that shitty, old-fashioned new jack swing/electro approach confused

storm PURPLE RAIN umbrella

B-side "God", "God" (Instr.) (UK 12")
Released 26 September 1984
Format 7" single, 12" single
Recorded Live, First Avenue, Minneapolis, 8/3/1983
Genre Rock, Pop, Gospel
Length 7" edit: 4:05, Album/12": 8:45
Label Warner Bros. Records
Writer Prince
Producer Prince
Certification Gold (5 December, 1984)

TRIVIA cool
"Purple Rain" is a power ballad by Prince and the The Revolution. It was his third US single (second UK) and title track from the legendary 1984 album of the same name. The song is an emotional combination of rock and roll, pop and gospel music.

The song was recorded live at the Minneapolis club First Avenue in 1983. The performance was the live debut of Wendy Melvoin, and also netted the final three songs of the Purple Rain album, although the songs would undergo studio overdubs later. "Purple Rain"'s original lyrics contained an extra verse about money that was edited out, as it diluted the emotional impact of the song.

"Purple Rain" opens with a lone guitar quickly followed by live drumming and a prominent organ, evoking images of church gospel music. Three verses are followed by a sing-along chorus, with a building emotional delivery. After the final chorus, a searing guitar solo takes over the song, delivering just as much impact as the lyrics. The song ends with a gentle piano solo and orchestral strings.

The emotional lyrics have multiple meanings; on the surface, they seem to be an apology from one lover to another, though on a deeper level, they become more of a spiritual allegory.

The song is a staple of Prince's live performances. He has played it on nearly every tour since 1984, except for a period after his name change when he avoided his older hits for a few years. In order to be released as a single, the song's duration was shortened from 8:45 to 4:05. The song reached #2 in the U.S., and is often considered Prince's signature song. At Super Bowl XLI's halftime show, in which he was the featured performer, "Purple Rain" was featured as the last song of his set and was, appropriately, played during a downpour at the stadium, which combined with the purple stage lighting created the song's signature image. Prince performed the song as the opening of a medley of his hits with Beyonce at the 2004 Grammies, and also at the 2006 Brits.

This song has been covered by dozens of other artists ranging from popular artists of various genres such as Tori Amos, Ani DiFranco, LeAnn Rimes and The Waterboys to jazz and orchestral versions. The band Phish does a rendition of "Purple Rain" with Fishman playing a vacuum cleaner. In March 2005, Q magazine placed it at number 40 in its list of the 100 Greatest Guitar Tracks. Rolling Stone ranked it #143 on their list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time. One parody cover was "Coleman's Train," played by a Detroit radio just after "Purple Rain" was released. It referred to the controversy over Mayor Coleman Young's plan for the Detroit People Mover. Comedian Rodney Carrington performed his rendition of the chorus of "Purple Rain" on his live CD "Hangin' With Rodney".

The B-side, "God" is a much more overtly religious number (Prince's most religious to date), recalling the book of Genesis. The song also features extensive vocal experimentation. Towards the end, Prince mentions "The Dance Electric", which was a song given to former band member André Cymone. In the U.K., the 12" single also included an instrumental of "God", also known as "Love theme from Purple Rain" from which an edited portion appears in the film.

In popular culture, noted references to Purple Rain appear in the Mortal Kombat video game series (the character Rain wears a purple outfit; Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon is a known Prince fan), The Bizzy Bone song "Murdah Me" heavily samples "Purple Rain", and in Digimon, the Digimon PrinceMamemon has a special move called Purple Rain.

THE SCANDALOUS SEX SUITE (pts.1,2&3) featuring Kim Basinger sexy heart love yes

B-side "When 2 R In Love", "Sex" (12")
Released 28 November 1989
Format 7" single, 12" single, CD maxi single
Recorded Paisley Park Studios, October 1988
Genre Soul, Ballad
Length 7" edit: 4:12, Album: 6:15
Label Warner Bros. Records
Writer Prince, John L. Nelson
Producer Prince

TRIVIA cool
"Scandalous" is a smooth, romantic ballad by Prince, released as a single off his 1989 Batman soundtrack. The song continues a long tradition of Prince's sexually charged ballads, with gasped, passionate vocals on lyrics such as "I can't wait till I can wrap my legs all around U". The track features a drum machine and synthesizers, which sample Clare Fischer's orchestra. The music is attributed to Prince and his father, John L. Nelson.

The Scandalous Sex Suite, released three days later, transforms the song into a 3-part suite. "The Crime" is a seductive conversation between Prince and Kim Basinger with various lyrics from the song interspersed. "The Passion" features the main song with new lyrics sung overtop the original. "The Rapture" includes a long guitar solo before finishing up the conversation from part one.

The suite's B-side "Sex" is a minimalist funk number featuring mainly a drum machine loop, a repeated synth hook and bass guitar. The song predictably includes adult lyrics, but also goes to state that safe sex is preferable and multiple partners can lead to death. The song was co-written with bassist, Levi Seacer, Jr. The 7" single received the Lovesexy song, "When 2 R In Love" as its B-side; the song was also included on The Scandalous Sex Suite.

Composer Danny Elfman adapted parts of "Scandalous" into his film score for Batman, where it served as a love theme. "Scandalous" reached no.5 on the U.S R&B chart, but didn't touch The US Hot 100.

"Scandalous" replaced "Still Would Stand All Time" as Batman's main ballad and love theme. The discarded song would later end up on Graffiti Bridge. "Scandalous" was Prince's final single released in the 1980s.

Due to licensing issues with the Batman franchise, Prince was not allowed to include songs from this album on any compilations. Even on concert T-shirts listing Prince's albums, the Batman title was replaced by the song "Scandalous".

Recorded Paisley Park Studios, June 1998-September 1999
Genre Pop, Ballad
Length Radio edit: 4:26, Album: 5:29, Adam & Eve Remix: 4:30
Label NPG Records/Arista Records
Writer prince
Producer Prince

TRIVIA cool
"The Greatest Romance Ever Sold" is a song and single from prince's 1999 album Rave Un2 the Joy Fantastic. The track is a smooth ballad, featuring Prince's multi-layered vocals in the chorus.

The B-side was a remix of the track known as the "Adam and Eve" remix, featuring rap by Eve. This mix was later mixed into the album version and available on the remixed version of the album called Rave In2 the Joy Fantastic. The maxi-single included additional remixes, produced by The Neptunes (featuring a guest appearance by rapper Q-Tip) and Jason Nevins.

Intended to be a comeback single for Prince, the song only became a minor hit, peaking at #63 (#23 on the R&B charts). This could possibly be because the song's music video wasn't released when it should be, instead premiering shortly after Rave Un2 the Joy Fantastic was released and over a month after single was for sale. The failure of this single to make waves contributed to the relatively poor performance of the album.
