Great record one of his best of the 90's Christ alone knows why he just tacked it onto Crystal Ball.
if you've gotta pay for things that you've done wrong I've gotta big bill coming at the end of the day- Gil Scott Heron

excellent accoustic album, I gave a copy of it yrs ago to a classical guitarist and he loved it, why he never released as a single album is a mystery.
If it were not for insanity, I would be sane.

It's a nice piece of work. It's not radio friendly at all, so the lack of singles isn't surprising.

A little overrated, imho, but it's still a nice cd.

You should definetly get Crystal Ball so you can get The Truth. There are some excellent songs on there. The whole thing is great.
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

Defintely worth getting. Some songs sound as if it is Tracyet Chapman. It is amazing that such a great album was never released properly but was with Crystal Ball. Also it seems odd that such an album comes out in the 90s, way different from his other stuff during this decade. A must have.

Half a great album.
Not fully acoustic (he can't help slapping lots of effects in there), but near enough.

Worth getting just for "Don't Play Me".

i agree with the others that it should have been a stand-alone release. but at least he put it out at all. cool one of my favorites. i must have played it every day for about a month or so. i loved it so much. man in a uniform, dionne, one of your tears, the otherside of the pillow, comeback, and the title track are all my favorites. really the whole album is tight. which is very rare for most of his 90s albums. i even like animal kingdom boxed, it's so weird and different, which is why i like it. the same can be said for the whole album. good stuff.thumbs up!

Animal Kingdom makes me want to eat a steak - just for spite. lol

yeah, he does come off somewhat condescending and some of the lyrics are kinda funny. but you gotta love the weird electronic vocals and his vocals towards the end. it's a kooky, fun little song. even if he probably didn't intend for it to be that way. lol

I really like the truth...so many pretty melodies, especially, "One of your tears"
"Man in a Uniform" is a great dance song.

"Animal Kingdom" is very sentimental.

"Fascination" is....of course....I love the whole thing.
"The Lion Sleeps Tonight...

Some interesting music, but lyrically, it was kind of the beginning of the end for the guy...crap like "Animal Kingdom" seemed to be part of Prince's bullying new dogma - 'you're either with me or you're against me' - no gray areas.

"Animal Kingdom" is funky, with stupid lyrics.

"Dion" is perfection.

I bet he's never performed those live.

No, he just lies on national television, campaigns for public sympathy by calling himself a slave & insulting the horrors of the millions of men & women who actually were slaves & threatens some of his most devoted admirers with legal action.

He's a tosspot.

The truth is pretty good.

In typical Prince fashion there's alot on the album that is perplexing or a bit over-the-top.

The sound effects and constant tweaking that Prince did was not necessary. And some of the songs , despite all the 'glazing' that he did, feel a bit unfinished.

But there are moments where I just loved it.

It's probably the last interesting Prince album outside of The Rainbow Children, which is unlistenable to me lol
