[Edited 1/10/08 8:42am] [Edited 1/10/08 8:45am] Firstly I don't agree with posting other peoples intellectual property without permission However, in this case, some of the material he is legally strongarming people to remove isn't his That is the major problem I don't think anyone has a problem with steering clear of doing anything illegal in order to preserve the sites What most people seem to be objecting to is the attempt to remove pictures to which other people own the copyright and, in at least one instance, has attempted to remove information on this site clearly covered under freedom of speech and most certainly not libellous One thing I forgot to ask (hence the edit) is exactly how is prince.org making $$$ out of prince with the things people post on here? Someone posting a photo on a blog or message board isn't making money and I have yet to have any show me how or even where this money is being made! [Edited 1/10/08 9:50am] | |

A fan taking a picture of Prince as he passed by him in an airport was not making money off of Prince. A fan who asks for his autograph or compliments him is not making money off of Prince. A web site that welcomes you with a message "Welcome to "the org," Linn4days...ask yourself what's more important: him, or the broken pieces of your heart." is not making money off of Prince. People who don't see that there is something wrong with this kind of behavior just because they're so blinded with their idol worship need a healthy dose of reality. Whether or not he's sitting at a computer himself & looking for sites or paying some company to do it, it's still being done in his name & that makes him an asshole. There's a tremendous difference between going after legitimate threats to his financial interests (bootleggers of unreleased material) & fan sites that are interested only in promoting the man & his legacy. He should be thanking them. Not threatening them with legal action. | |

I totally agree with you on this because to tell you the truth there are probably many other issues outside of the fan websites that are causing this reaction that we, as his fans, are not aware about. Its not just about his music, I haven't seen anyone on here say they should be able to rip his songs This is about him demanding photos to which he has no legal claim be removed and in at least one instance a demand to remove information about his demands clearly protected under the right to free speech If this whole ridiculous drama was about people ripping his tunes it would be a non starter | |
