The SOTT DVD deserves the same treatment as zeppelin's latest!

This is a suberb/vide/dvd but the dvd sucks.

Warners should of properly remastered and remixed it to surround. I know it's supposed to be in 5.1 as it is but it sucks.

Anyone listened to the song remains the same dvd? eek Sounds amazing like you are there.

I'm sick of prince's catalogue of vids and music being treated like shit.

DAMN YOU WB! stab chainsaw bomb punch

WB had nothing to do with the SOTT video or DVD wink
If it were not for insanity, I would be sane.

Pretty sure it was Universal. I have the new (2005?) DVD and it is very high quality. I don't believe it's 5.1, but it really does look and sound fantastic.

The album and music videos are controlled by WB, the "tour" movie is Universal - which is why you probably won't see any music video or remastered album tracks ever on the movie DVD.

according to the free dvd from the Observer it was a Purple Films company production. You would probably have to look it up somewhere. WB were not even involved with the distribution or promotion of the film. I can only assume after what happenned with UTCM, that WB washed their hands of any involvment with Prince´s film ideas. SOTT was one of those spur of the moment ideas by Prince in the wake of the concert cancellations in 1987.
If it were not for insanity, I would be sane.

And don't forget the fact that Robert Plant is a god, and Prince wishes he were as great.

The only real 'official' and best release of SOTT was in Canada on Alliance (Universal) in 2005.

The picture and sound are both fantastic and top notch.

You can buy it from Amazon.ca and even with P&P it still only comes to around £12-£14. Worth it though instead of messing about with the other releases.

yeah, but WHAT ABOUT EXTRAS?? this goes for all the dvd releases, including the Purple Rain Anniversary edition. The extras, or lack thereof, are shockingly piss poor.

Foe example, UTCM. Ok, it was panned on release, so you can see it slinking onto video back in the day. But 20 years on, with a solid cult fanbase (yes, i'm talking about us), just throwing in the videos and the trailers does not cut it.

Likewise, the SOTT dvd release could/should have been an event. The world's greatest performer, touring his greatest album, with (arguably) his greatest show ever. And yet, it product comes out looking like someting you'd buy in a petrol station with your change. neutral

Sorry to disagree with you, but it IS in fact very high quality. It's the version from the Canadian Amazon (NOT the Brazilian version).

yessir.

Prince doesn;t care what we think though.

PR 'special' 2 disc edition was poor i agree but i did learn a few things. W & l helped write PR and the whole band arranged it over a couple of days plus prince was told my his father never to get married; just like the film.

I thought the sound was straight garbage. It should of been alot better done. WB took no care with it.

Gees dude, I thought the extras were great on the PR 20th Anniversary DVD...
- 3 mini-documentaries featuring interviews with key people (W&L, Alan Leeds, Jimmy & Terry etc.)
- All of the official promo videos from Prince, The Time & Apollonia 6
- Commentary by Director Steve Fargnoli
- the original MTV premiere special

What more did you want? This is Purple Rain we're talking about, a relatively minor hit movie in the overall context of things. It wasn't even the highest grossing movie of 1984!

all DVD's suck now. NTSC and PAL sucks.

Long live high def 1080p.

SOTT was made into a hidef transfer that was was broadcast a while back.. it needs a modern nice 1080p release on disc.

Search your feelings, you know it to be true.
