prince as a "rapper"

now, before the hating starts. i must say i personally don't mind p's raps as corny as they are sometimes. i've always looked at it as if he is having fun with something different. not taking himself too serious with it(i mean what real rapper would say some shit like "my balls are round and round" or "i never seen a granny look like you" lol ). the day he puts out an all hip-hop album than i'll be worried. every once in a while he busts a couple rhymes and they are almost always weak. but it always sounds like it's in jest and meant for a good laugh and really what's wrong with that. my favorite p raps are the one from johnny,p control and dare i say it poom poom(which kind of reminds me of a tlc song).
For all time I am with you, you are with me.

I personally much preferred P´s rapping to that crap Tony M used do. Tony M ruined to many songs and he was awful in concert, I actually dont think P is that bad a rapper and Hip Hop De La Soul style would certainly not be beyond him
If it were not for insanity, I would be sane.

considering how much he went out of his way to hate rap (and i'm not saying he was wrong), it's funny how he decided to embrace it for the sake of selling some records.

I definitely prefer Prince's rapping to Tony's NO question

Tony kept a couple of songs from D&P and prince from being 100% decent... the only times I didn't mind Tony was "Live 4 Love" and "Willing and Able".

I didnt like "Love 2 the 9's" for several listens cuz of Tony alone.

Now... Prince rapping is something else. Like someone said, the only time I'd have to worry is if he put out an album that's all rap & hip-hop... disbelief much makes up the majority of mainstream radio as it is...

BUT... I don't mind so much with Prince... one exception would have 2b "Push"... that's just plain embarassing falloff

I'm cool with him rapping where people hate him rapping. I dig his "Sun, Moon & Stars" reggae rap... and most recently, Incense & Candles and Mr. Good-night
cool

there weren't any rap songs I liked b4 Prince, let's just say.
had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong. It started raining, baby, the birds were gone

prince isn't up there with snoop/50cent hu eva..but his style is unique. the little bit of rapping he's done is passable, but i wanna believe it's all tongue in cheek.
he's no gangsta! i find amusing tht he tries 2 b all 'ard...when really we all know he's a huge softie who loves his ballards cool

Prince can do alot of things, but he should stay out of the game when the others players are people like Tupac, Snoop, Missy, Biggie, NWA, KanYe, Ludachis and so many others. He doesn't have a rap flow. disbelief
The only raps of him that I like are Insense and candles (That is VERY good. Not just good for him, but good in general.) and Pussy control (for lyrical content.) Maybe Sexy MF, too.
And, no, I'm not one of those people who hate just because I dislike rap/hip hop. I love it, thats how I know his is below avarage.

prince has a very unique rap style. he's actually a lot more consistently original in his rap style than he is when he delves into some other genres

even his less accomplished attempts (sexy mf) have charm. but the dude simply DOES have flow; songs like days of wild and (especially) race have some very interesting over-the-bar rhymes, rhytms and phrasings. on a technical basis, he's superior to (the already mentioned) snoop dogg, missy and 50 cent. saying he doesnt have flow simply isnt true.

well said, 50 cent is one of the worst rappers ever, Snoop was only really good with a good producer ie Dre or Pharrell and MIssy is simply a migraine. As you said prince has a very unique style and it flows perfectly, unlike that clown Tony M. What did prince see in him, how can you let such a sub standard amatuer play on your albums and perform on stage with you, that alone ruined any chance of any rap from Prince being taken seriously, and may I also point out that Tony M´s rapping was consistently pointed out as being the weak spot of the otherwise brilliant D&P tour
If it were not for insanity, I would be sane.

Prince sucks at rapping.

His career suffered in the 90s because he tried to mix in hip-hop, 'cause he's so bad at it. Garbage.

I agree 100% "the rapper's problem usually stems from being tone deaf"

If Prince is going to have a rapper on another song, It should be Afroman!

disbelief if anyone it should be jay-z (because i say so,lol). i don't really like it when p collaborates with rappers on his own projects. he doesn't need to. chuck d.'s rap on undisputed was worse than some of p's. lol and don't even get me started on that reggae rapper on i rock, therefore i am.ill or doug e. fresh on (eye like) funky music. keep the rapping to himself or not at all.

Rap appeared just as Prince was beginning to follow trends & stopped creating them. For those who claim Prince was more interested in making music than making money, you only need to point out his frequent botched attempts at bringing rap & rappers into the mix. If he was so against it, why employ it, right? Must be about the $$$$$.

Too bad it failed miserably.
