Renaming Prince Songs/Albums Did you ever disagree with any of the titles that Prince used for any of his albums? Perhaps, you felt it didn't capture the mood or ethos, or that simply the title sucked.
Similarly, with individual songs, did any of the titles surprise you that they were called that instead of something else. In either of these case, can you think of what title would have worked better for you?

I've thought Welcome To The Dawn worked better as an opening track & shoud have been the title instead of The Truth.
I have never liked the track order on The Truth & always rearrange it when listening to it. I like the songs just not in that order. Thats why God made programmable cd players.

Nah, I think the title of Prince's album go with them. Only he can come up with naming an album , Sign the Times, NewPowerSoul, etc. Maybe re-arranging the songs because some songs sound like they should be on other albums depending on how they sound. the man! &

Thought Don't Play Me could have been a cd title.
Maybe instead of Chaos & Disorder. Or maybe Chaos & Disorder should have been called Don't Buy Me.

Well because the actual song Emancipation sucks ass, I would've probably thrown that off, taken off all the ballads and a few of the sucky fast tracks and made it a full length single cd called 'SLAVE'.

New Power Soul could have worked as Wasted Kisses.
A title track thats also a hidden track - that would be a first.

In recent years,I think Prince has gotten lazy with choosing album titles. For example,in 1998 he releases an album called "New Power Soul",which is a phrase he created in 1988!! Similarly,in 1999,he calls an album "Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic",which is a title of a song from 1988.It seems like he's just looking through the vaults and picking an old song for his album titles these days.
I also think 'The Gold Experience' is an awful title for an album. He should have kept the song "Days Of Wild" on the album, and used that as the title. The 'Days Of Wild' album!!

That was the original title before he had to ruin it with that tacky "The Gold Experience" title.

New Power Soul was a big letdown -- I think most of us were expecting something similar to Lovesexy with a title like that. Should've called it Freaks on This Side perhaps.

"Graffiti Bridge" -- he shoulda...
1. Not made the movie 2. Not recorded that song 3. Included "Soul Psychadelicide" on the album 4. Named the album "We Can Funk" -- I think that would've really worked as a "compilation" album with so many guest spots. I also think 'The Black Album' is a silly album title. He should have called it either 'Dead On It' or 'Rock Hard In A Funky Place'.

i think this isn't the official title - did it have a title anyway? I read something about "Somebody" written on the sleeve.

i think this isn't the official title - did it have a title anyway? I read something about "Somebody" written on the sleeve. The album has no official title. It was intended to be known as "the black album" in the same way that The Beatles "White Album" was known. Neither album was actually called that, it's just because that was the color of the album cover, coupled with the fact that neither album had an actual title (in the case of 'The White Album' it was supposed to be known as 'The Beatles' by The Beatles). It was listed on WB's release schedule as 'Something' by 'Somebody' just because they needed to list it under something (they couldn't leave it blank). In the early stages of development it was known as 'The Funk Bible', but that title was dropped when Prince came up with the idea of releasing it anonymously with a completely black sleeve.
