POINTLESS SPECULATION

Imago said:

ok, I know this is a pointless excercise in speculation, but that's just how I roll.

Why doesn't Prince answer questions directly? He always , like a politician, answers the question he wishes he was asked rather than the one he really was asked.

It just seems kind of tried, tested, and burned out.

Is it a self-esteem thing? Is it just that he's still THAT interested in building a mystery for himself?

i think he likes to keep us pondering ... he likes the mysteria around him... keeps fans trying to decipher the cryptic messages ...some stuff i dont try to figure out .. when he did this interview with Tavis Smiley, a girl called in and asked him.. where he would be New Year's Eve.. she asked if he would be performing and would it be televised.. know what he said? .. Prince: 'Yes, if the sky has blood in it... red and blue make purple' .. confuse uhm .. yeah .. riiight lol.. im not even gonna try to figure that out... maybe he let's Camille out every so often

Actually that makes perfect sense...The girl that called in asked if he would be performing New Year's Eve...so that must have been during the Rave Un2 The Year 2000 concert performance. Prince's comment is linked from the passage of year 1999 into 2000. Now if you remember the lyrics and the meaning of the song "1999" he is speaking about judgment day(war, destruction, bloodshed)therefore the sky would be filled with blood(under a blood red sky) and the comment about red and blue make purple...well "The sky was all purple...There were people runnin' everywhere."

So you see the answer was YES! biggrin Right brain thinkers will definitely understand this. Also some people are equally adept at both modes (whole brain).

Just for fun take a look at this:

I agree with ya at the beginning, I was all up for the fun of the 80s and what the heck is he talking bout here, here, and here. The Live 2 see the dawn, Looking for the Ladder, etc was fun cause he was just serving up a long lasting smorgasboard. He was just doing so many things and playing with so many styles that it was just fun to look at the album covers and ponder "hmmm, what is he saying here?"

This sorely got overused in the batman soundtrack, and just became obviously lame in Diamond N Pearls. Thats when he should have called it a day and moved on.

I lost touch with most prince personas after that, though I did enjoy the normalcy he presented during the Musicology time. It seemed that he had become an adult and could actually go out to the media, answer simple soft ball questions, sell his product and not look like a complete dumbass.

Now hes just sending body guards to take away a fans camera, and trying to sue websites.

But back in the day it was fun, cause there was something that kinda came together, and the journey he was talking bout almost made sense.

I don't think that it's a self-esteem thing, but i think that's just the way he is, frustrating as it may be to get indirect answers to questions.

Personally, indirect answers/comments leave me feeling like something is wrong with me that the commenter is trying to tell me something. Normally I appreciate when people tell me directly if I did something that they feel hurt them, as far as communicating goes, at least the main point gets across and it gives me less of a complex. sad

Flowers, I did not see or hear that interview. I took what you said as fact of what Prince had replied with as it looked like you put quotation marks around it and then you said "uhm .. yeah .. riiight lol.. im not even gonna try to figure that out..." and you used a confused emotion.

I was trying to explain what that comment might have meant if indeed that is what Prince said. Now you are saying he didn't say that to begin with. OK confused

yeah cause the chick wanted to know where he was gonna be (the question she asked) .. been awhile since ive seen the interview and i confused the answers .. and that saying he made about 'blood in the sky' was a reference to 1999 ...(Tavis asked him something about reflecting on 1999 and what did he think)

Typical phonecall to Prince:

Prince: "Hello?"
Caller: "Yes, is Prince there?"
Prince: "where is there exactly? Relative to here?"
Caller: "I'm sorry?"
Prince: "Sorry is a state of mind."
Caller: "Who is this?"
Prince: "I used to go by the name prince"
Caller: "erm. what? Anyways, Mr. Nelson, this is your cable company. We'd like to call you about unpaid bills amounting to the amount of more than 10,000 US dollars related to subscriptions to the playboy channel." "Hello? Are you there?"
Caller: "Hello? Hello?"

pause...

Prince: "Do U own Ur masters?"

falloff Wow...

I never really understood why Prince just give people a normal statement/answer sort of speak. I sometimes wonder if he speaks in third person...and I mean outside his music?? Anyway the point is he has to go as far as from being a ADD person to some wierdo that's speaks in a Pseudo Philosophcial lingo/bullshit just to be "mysterious" or hell to prove a damn point. It's no fair how I must sit and watch his interview without worrying about his random prattling and speaking off topic rolleyes.

QUESTION: Now, has anyone ever figured out what he was saying after he had said it? Maybe like a day later, or maybe after the fact, when whatever event he was referring to had happened? Or are there things he said (in interviews or whatever) that nobody still had figured out just yet? Just curious...

p.s. "O.K. got the memo!" nod razz

I somehow think Weird Al would still exist. And the "Those who can..." stuff doesn't even apply here, because his parodies aren't meant as cutthroat insults, they're good natured ribbing.

Where's your sense of humor, man?
